The overall time taken depends on the PD (they're overworked as fuck) and costs 74€ IIRC. After I forked over all the necessary paperwork it took me maybe a month to finally get the permit to acquire, which is valid for 6 months. During that time, you choose a firearm that matches the permit (they can be something like VALID FOR .223REM - .308REM), fork over cash, and then show the rifle to the police who mark it up in the registry.
