Here's some thoughts from a guy who has learned fluent Spanish in about 3 months time
First of all, it doesn't take an entire season (lasting 3 months) to cover A1. You can go from an A1 level to A2 easily within 2-3 weeks, 4 at most. The jump to B1 can be a bit difficult, but just takes a clear path of practice to overcome it.
The way I understand it is that A1 allows you to introduce yourself, understand basic expressions and perhaps also understand responses to your simple questions as long as the other party speaks very slowly. A2 is almost the same deal, but with a bit more spontaneus conversation unlocked. It is however only at B1 level that both parties (native and learner) can speak without it straining either of them.
I think my advice for you on how to learn a language, is that you have to take the time to learn it, and use resources that interest you. If you just try to watch some youtube videos and read grammar books etc. it won't get you anywhere (t. guy who tried studying French for 3 years in this way before quitting at A2). My motivation for learning Spanish was my girlfriend who has it as her mother language, and that allowed me to always have someone to talk to and meet new people in that language.
Although the #1 thing that helped me the most was taking online classes with tutors. Some for grammar, some for conversation. Simply having these 1 hour classes with a native speaker who has a conversation with you and asks interesting questions for an hour a day is what got me the furthest. Their cost depends on your choice of language, but I can tell you that Spanish teachers from México, Venezuela etc are cheap as fuck (~6-7 dollars per hour or less). Utilize that.
Bump because good thread.
I have to agree with OP on everything he said. I've only started using tutors, but it really does help, especially when I can practice conversation or even just ask them questions that language exchange partners either don't know the answer to or can't be bothered.

>tfw want to learn a new language but morbidly lazy and always give up after a few hours
If only I had spent the hours watching Finnish grammar videos from youtube on learning new languages, I'd be fluent in German by now.
Should I keep learning Russian, or should I start learning mandarin? Keep in mind there's a Chinese qt Im friends with and really like pls help :3
>>67869586
Depends, I suppose Mandarin can be really really hard and you'd really have to have some future prospects around chinese or China to be able to follow that up. Getting fluent can take you years even with effort.
How far are you in Russian? If you're above B1 you should at least finish it, otherwise it's a waste

What languages do you know danebro?
1. Spen
2. A2
>>67867630
because everyone already learned 100 english words needed to post in the shart in the mart threads. why learn more?
My 2 cents: duolingo is shit. Look at me I am 30% fluent in 20 languages. Way too easy and forgiving and therefore not really teaching you. But maybe it is OK as a starting point to motivate you...

I'm trying to learn Danish but I don't really like it too much and I don't know any media to watch that keeps my interest other than Danish boat documentaries.

Guess mandarin it is.

Not gonna try to advertise my own language to you but you could always try searching for some shows on dr.dk, they have plenty of things to watch that is available outside of denmark (and with subtitles)

I'm learning Russian. I noticed it's much easier than I thought. A good proportion words and few cases are similar to German. I started with duolingo and use some grammar cards, everyday 2 of them.

This board is basically /b/ with flags.
>>67867733
>>67867630
It's quite sad. This was a language board originally. And now there are /brit/ generals where everybody talks about /b/ things in english.
>>67871919
i think they are saying it is sad that it is anything but now

Si necesitas ayuda, puedes venir a /cum/ y te ayudaré un poco.

such a damn shame that we are a just a /b/ with generals and flags. it bores me talking to my countrymen on a fucking general, so I go to other threads.

true, and which is why i am trying to make it what i want it to be. i ignore the shit threads, and even it is a shit thread i ignore shit posts and just ask random questions about foreign languages or try to speak with international anons in their languages. it is doable but requires a lot of sifting through pure shit to find something good
>>67872304
That's a good idea. I just go to their threads and shake them up a bit.
>>67872304
I spend more time talking to Asian French Second Language speakers in French than I do with French people in French because they're too mean.

No it wasnt newfag. Posting in any language other than english used to be a bannable offense. Get your facts straight

I would like to learn another romance language but I think it will be a waste of time considering that Italian, Portuguese and Catalan are very intelligible.
Outside romance languages I'm only interested in German.

Solo me interesa el alemán. El danés, sueco y compañía me parecen muy alienígenas para mi. El neerlandés suena asqueroso.
>>67872443
its probably because you sound to them like youre butchering the language. and also the french are fags, all of them.
>>67874890
es asqueroso porque tienen sonidos guterales, igual que nosotros. de hecho tengo un amigo mexicano aca en dinamarca que aprendio aleman, y a él le gusta
