Barbosas, gypsies and t*rks got it

I think these maps are just talking about what sounds the letters themselves actually represent, rather than the sounds themselves

Currently learning Norwegian... so there's an accent where R is just like English?
>>67691016
The classical pronounciation of Latin guys who say Kikero for Cicero promote ugliness.
This map seems a bit retarded to me
I don't know why the whole of the UK isn't orange, /h/ dropping is an irregular feature and not part of standard pronunciation
>>67691098

Wallonia is litterly Old Dutch for land of foreigners.
>>67690423
Portuguese roll their Rs? They always sound like the french but a bit softer. Or maybe because most of them live in the blue area. It made me think desu.

it's just scots and welsh people that roll their /r/

Probably foreign mongs thinking all Englishmen are Cockneys
>>67691439
Oh, I see. When it said neither rolled or flapped I thought it meant those speakers where non-rhotic, and I thought the blue (I must be colorblind) R was our "normal" one.

Everybody speaks like in the blue area, the only ones who roll their R's are the alentejo people, this map is fucking bullshit. It's not like we can't roll our R's it's just that we don't use it

>>67691532
Well obviously it doesn't count loanwords, if it did all the maps would be massive clusterfucks
>>67692216
no idea about bornholm, but I would imagine Scania's pronunciation having to do with the fact that it was Danish until the late 17th century and not completely integrated into Sweden until 1720.

>the whole world has to speak this language now
I cringe every time

You can have soft g in Danish, so we should be same color as Sweden here.
>>67690545
Actually, in some german words the "v" is pronounced like an "f".
>>67692579
Guttural R actually comes from France, more specifically from Paris, back when the court got tired of the endless rolled rs, so they started by completly skipping them and eventually adopted the guttural R in the end.
Now bow before your french masters.
>>67692015
whoever made these maps has no fucking clue

it has a hard g, soft g (like swedish) and a kind of breathy one similar to h.

no wonder why we cant pronounce other languages and other people cant pronounce english for shit
can someone please explain how english people don't pronounce 'r' and give examples of when this happens
I still have no idea when we do it
for example in 'pronounce' the r is obvious
what the frick ??????
>>67693770
The real origin is probably unknown
I like the story where one French king/duke or whatever had a speech impairment and couldn't roll the "r", so everyone around him eventually followed suit as to not offend or to have a "noble" pronunciation, and it spreading from there
>>67692975
I always tought you said J's like Ruan and not Huan.

Guttural R is also present in Inuktitut and Zhuang. It is no big deal unless you believe that Danes picked it up from the French and then taught it to Eskimos.

The letter H is not native to Serbia proper, and was adopted from Herzegovinian dialects
Also, why are Bulgaria, Greece and the East Slavs not considered Europe by these maps?

>>67695452
I guess because of the Cyrilic/Greek alphabet. But that wouldn't explain Serbia.
>>67690423
wtf i hate england now
>>67695244
believe it or not.
It used to be part of a small number of local fringe dialects, but it unfortunately became mainstream due to the Dutch media centre (i.e. where television is made) being right inside a town which uses the "english R".
The R only sounds like the english R at the end of a word, if it isn't followed up by a vowel.
Hoorn (Horn) sounds like Hoo (english R) N
Horen (to hear) sounds like Ho (Dutch R) en.
Rood sounds like (Dutch R) ood.

>>67699654
Nah, this was actually the Latins being too stupid to import the Greek kappa for some reason, they only imported gamma for some reason which then (in the form of C) got to represent both /g/ and /k/, later on G was added for the /g/
They simply should have imported both, I mean they got it right with D/T and B/P as well

I've anecdotally measured this recently.
It's completely random, and not region-based. Both sounds are interchangeable, so people will just pick one for most words, but not even necessarily all.
My parents both roll their R's but I use the French one.
