It's incredibly cold in winter but gets a lot of snow. People are generally left wing except for some parts of rural Maine. The region is very, very white and English-speaking. Summers there are gorgeous and there's lots to do, and the fish and shellfish there is excellent along the coasts.

In Acadia you might find a bit of French heritage (the term Cajun is a corruption of the term Acadien, which is French for Acadian) in Acadia, which is a region in Maine. Vermont has a French name (Green Mountain, or Vert Mont in French). English is by far the dominant language but you might find some French speakers if you ask people whose families have been there for a very long time.
