I wonder what sort of bargaining Trump is doing with the TEA partiers / fiscal hawks. Ryan already has his hands full herding Republican cats in the House. The hawks are the ones who shut down the government during the budget sequesters. In the two years of Obama's Stimulus they were doled out to the states as block grants, and a bunch of them refused them or blew them on stupid shit.

I just can't imagine The House conceding if Trump approaches them with a $25 billion project that only spans 3 or 4 districts (eg a Dam or rail system) and if you dole it out piecemeal to 250 districts nothing will get done. I'm guessing that's why The House wants to bring back pork barrel spending.

This is going to get very interesting once the Trump honeymoon wears off. I pray that he has the vision to actually propose real projects that most of the country can get behind and support regardless, and not just "replace 100 bridges and lay down 2000 miles of asphalt".

I'm not thinking a Mars program (though that would stimulate the global economy if we could get everyone on board). I'm thinking something like high speed rail, smart grid, smart roadways, floodplain / wetlands restoration, or something useful that doesn't fuck up the environment.

Maybe start construction of 20 new nuclear power plants as a 10 year program?

America is generally seen as a laughing stock, a backwards, superstitious nation resistant to progress, which fails to care for it's own citizens. Employment and health benefits are pitiful in comparison, the gun laws are considered bizarre and the incredibly harsh justice system including the barbaric death penalty laws is shocking to the milder more "rehabilitation" focussed europeans. There are also the issues with human rights, womens rights, and wars. In fairness having nuts like Sarah Palin and whatsisname off Fox News does not help the reputation of the USA.

Apparently some third world countries still see America as the land of opportunity but I would say that the general reputation of the USA is in tatters and serious work will be needed before it can win back the respect of the world.
