That system has not been used by anyone here, I doubt my parents even know it.
>>
Fun fact, the US Dollar, introduced in the 1780s, was the second-ever decimal currency, after only the Russian Ruble.

>>67544328
You guys decimalised it in 1971. Such a shame, you might as well call it the British Dollar like the Australians and Canadians tbqh.
>>
>>67544328
It was decimalized in the 1970s, right?
>>
>>67544374
... and then this post happens while I'm clicking storefronts.

Both my parents were born in 1965, I doubt they knew much about money when they were 6.

Why do americans use fluid ounces? It makes no sense, theres already a system there for liquid
>>
>>67544424
Fluid ounce measures cubic space
Ounce measures weight
One floz H2O has a weight of one ounce.
One oz H2O occupies a volume of one fluid ounce.
This is not strictly a USA practice, either.
Search Wikipedia for avoirdupois measurement

>Fluid ounce measures cubic space

Why use fluid ounces when theres literally already a measurement for that specific purpose?
>>
>>67544557
What measurement is that? Milliliters?
I agree that we should switch to SI.
>>
Why is everyone so obsessed with us?
>>
>>67544590
Americans adopted imperial measurements and changed them midly, so shouldnt you be using the imperial method of measuring fluid rather than an invented method that makes no sense or metric? Are you pretending to be stupid or something?
>>
>>67544424
Well your deflection seems to have worked yet again.
>>
>>6754462five
Now I see the b8.
>>
>>67544625
>and changed them midly
Actually, it was the Brits that changed them, at least with weight (we kept the original meanings of hundredweight and ton, which the Brits changed in 1824, since we never really used stone). IDK about fluid ounces.
>>
>>67544678
Either way, the americans kept the system but left half of it out such as pints and stones for no reason whatsoever so whats left over is a convulted mess.
>>
>>67544661
That was my first post in this thread
>>
>>67544783
And it worked. Well played.
>>
>>67544811
nice one reddit
>>
>>67544714
This may or may not be b8, but we do have pints. Do you have fifths of alcohol? I know our pre-Metric alcohol "proof" system is also a bit different.
>>
>>67544869
>Do you have fifths of alcohol?
Maybe we do but I have no idea how much that is.
>>
>>67544992
As in, a fifth of a gallon. We mostly use them only for distilled spirits and not anything else.
>>
>>67545027
Google tells me thats 750mls, spirits here are sold in 70cl or 1l bottles.
>>
>>67545027
It's roughly 757 mL, apparently. The standard size for a bottle of wine is 750 mL. Spirits here normally sell at 700 mL and 1 L. The brits as far as I'm aware will be the same since all their wine comes from here or continental Europe. In general I think they use fractions far less than seppos when dealing with imperial measurements, but I'm open to correction.
>>
The U.K should go back to imperial
>>
>>67545281
Nah.
>>
>>67545310

Yeah and bring back the empire as well
>>
>>67545027
>As in, a fifth of a gallon. We mostly use them only for distilled spirits
never heard of it 2bh
Weird, considering that we use pints, flagons, and growlers for beer and literally nothing else.
