If I were to make a syllabary for english, it would have to have 240 symbols
>6 vowels 20 consonants
>6 vowels to each consonant, 6*20 = 120 combinations like qa, wa, ra, qe, we, re, te
>120*2 = 240 for combinations like aq, er, op, ak, up

But that's wrong because letters don't correspond to sounds

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_phonology there are 24 consonant sounds and in the american accent, there are 13 vowel sounds (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_American)

So to make an american english syllabary it would need 24*13*2 = 624 unique symbols.
And actually even more than that because in order to spell things like "run" you might say that's either "r"+"un" or "ru"+"n" and either way you'd need to put a line or something over the symbol which gets its end cut off.
Or maybe I should consider that "run" is a syllable and so it should have its own symbol and so 24*13*24 should be added to that 624.
