We used to have nasal vowels but then they disappeared. There was still one dialekt that had nasal vowels in 1950 but then they stopped speaking their dialekt and now it's kompletely gone.

There used to be some dual like 1000 years ago but only in pronouns but they've disappeared kompletely a long time ago. It would've been really kool to have it, though.

We still have genders, but people have stopped using the traditional Norwegian gender patterns and replased them with the Danish system, bekause we were a Danish kolony thing for hundreds of years so people got the idea that Danish grammar is superior to Norwegian.

Gender for non-gendered nouns is the most autistic noun class to exist. It astounds me that gender is more common than animacy (or any of the more numerous noun classes common in African languages) given that it is the least sensical and least useful of noun classes.

In most cases, if I got rid of gender, no meaning would be lost and the language would be much simpler. At least with other noun classes such as animacy, the noun class actually makes sense for the noun (i.e. the word "table" has an inanimate noun class , which makes sense since it is inanimate - in contrast to a gender system, which forces the word to take a type of noun class ~gender~ that doesn't make any sense for it). The only exception is the rare rare languages that use neuter for inanimate, and only use masculine and feminine for living things.

It's not like gender is any difficult. It helps clarity. If you mishear a word, the gender on the adjective may clear up what word you said. It's an advantage.

For inanimate, I think it may be slightly less useful. It's usually the animate nouns that act, and the inanimate nouns are more passive. This depends on verb and case structure a bit, but it's less useful to be able to tell if something is animate or inanimate because that's often clear from word order and cases, while if any word can have any gender, it makes it more useful to tell similar words apart.
