Merkel is a chancellor, the president is the "actual" head of state. Chancellor is like a PM in parliamentary democracies.

Our head of state has been that since 1973

Monarchy sure is great lads
>>
>>67482193
>the president is the "actual" head of state.
He only has representative functions, The Chancellor is something in between PM and President
>>
>>67482193
Well, technically he is one.

>Presidents have extensive discretion regarding the way they exercise their official duties.[2] The Federal President gives direction to general political and societal debates and has some important "reserve powers" in case of political instability (such as those provided for by Article 81 of the Basic Law).[3] Under Article 59 (1) of the Basic Law (German Constitution), the Federal President represents the Federal Republic of Germany in matters of international law, concludes treaties with foreign states on its behalf and accredits diplomats.[4] Furthermore, all federal laws must be signed by the President before they can come into effect; however, he or she can only veto a law that he/she believes to violate the constitution.

He doesn't exercise those powers by convention.
>>
>>67482278
I meant that officially the president is the head of state.
>>
Her only contender is a democratic socialist which is arguably worse if you're concerned about rapefugees and all that
>>
Successive terms is just stability.
Then again, we don't have President, or anything equal, so who knows.

USA's actual position is more about bipartisan butthurt that Presidents have a easier time getting successive elections.
>>
Merkel had a good run, but she stayed in power too long, now people hate her. If she had stepped down 4 years ago, I don't think people would hate her nearly as much. On top of that, we'd have a competent person dealing with the refugees now.
Tl;dr: Merkel should just voluntarily step down already
>>
Hey Germans, remember not to listen to the polls.

Some polls here gave Trump only a 2% chance to win.
>>
>>67482403
Queen Elisabeth is also officially a head of state and because British constitution is not codified she could be, hypothetically, much more powerful.
>>
>>67482424
As far as I understand, the German President is the equivalent of our Monarchs.
They don't really do much at all except when the Prime Minister tells them to sign laws and shit

I thought it was more butthurt from all political sides, since Political parties basically use weeks if not months to make opinions and formulate them.

>>

It's too much of a stretch to say that that many illegals may have voted though, they had all the incentive to do so since it could possibly mean deportation. And on top of that, no voter ID means that it can be done easily. So it's pretty much fact that there were illegals voting

It should. Otherwise it just turns into a mob rule where media over the more populated regions controls the nation.

There's an estimated 2.6 million illegals (probably more) in California alone. Combined with other states with illegal populations, the basically non-existent voter ID laws half the US has, and the fact that this election was pretty much a direct referendum on whether illegals should be able to stay or not (so there would be a higher illegal turnout than normal) it could be well above 3 million.

Basically the "equivalent" of Labour (SPD) betrayed their clientele. Two grand coalitions out of the last three terms have completely eroded what differences remained to the CDU (Merkel's party). It's easy to see how the two big players in a historically pseudo-dualistic environment buddying up is a problem.
One can only hope that their continued survival is due to inertia. We have a fuckton of old people voting like they always have, after all.

their entire political lineup on "oppressed groups" is about trannies and felony blacks, they don't do anything for the working class.

Donald Trump won the Midwest and Great Lakes because he promised to bring the jobs back while Hillary just wanted more open markets to send jobs away.

there was indeed a time where a blue color worker when looking out for his own interests ought to have voted to the left, but that simply isn't true anymore and this election proved it.

>>this cuck actually believes that the US should be controlled entirely by Cuckifornia and Jew York
>California has a population of around 40 million. Of course Hillary is going to get more votes, you cuck.
That's one of those things I don't understand.
People say if everyone's vote had the same weight, the presidential campaign would only focus on the interests of New York, California and Florida.
But that doesn't seem like a flaw in the voting system. It's a flaw in the presidential campaign system. How fucking stupid are Americans? It's like saying "the president only cares about California, so instead of forcing the president to campaign everywhere, let's nullify Californias votes"
>>
>>67487308
The former. The latter being the Greens' "job".
>>
>>67487850
not quite

it's all about being able to balance out regions of the country (somewhat) not regardless of population, but in spite of it.

Wyoming has 3 electoral votes
California has 55 electoral votes
With Wyoming's population of 584,000, and California's population of 38,800,000, that means that Wyoming has about 194,666 people to 1 electoral delegate while California has about 705,454 people to a delegate, meaning that Wyoming has an electoral college representation, on a population-to-delegate basis about 3.6x greater than that of California, but let's not lose sight of the reality: california has 18.3 times the amount of votes than Wyoming in the Electoral College. As Wyoming's population goes up, their multiplier goes down, if California's population went down, their multiplier would increase.

this means that massive states are still overwhelmingly more influential than smaller ones, but smaller ones are still important.

this is to prevent our candidates from just selling out huge swaths of the country in favor of just a few states.
>>
>>67487308
The Left focusses more on economic issues, they're anti-capitalist and anti-fascist
