I've thought about this for a pretty long time, all in all the pros overweight the cons

the only problem is, how do I do that as a eurofag?

About me: 25 y/o
master in mechanical engineering and economics
in work for over 3 years now (startet part time while I was studying, just if you wonder)
pretty decent salary, basically everything as good as it can be
>I don't have a Austrian citizenship though, just EU visa

Pretty much. I love my country, especially for it's geography and beauty. And FREEDOM. And some of my fellow Americans are OK, but I don't care for most of them. Low standards are destroying our country.

But I also travel to Europe a few times per year on business, and usually extend the stay into a vacation. I've been to Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany, and Britain many times.

For culture and urban beauty it's hard to beat Austria. We're different and by no means better in all ways or even most.

That said, I've worked with lots of H1-Bs in my jobs (chemist, application engineer) from China, India, Britain, Ireland, etc --- even Iran and Canada. There's a way if you really want it.

I live in a village next to Utrecht with my parents with an entire 4 room floor for myself. I'm still single so I can't buy a house here. So when I move out I'll have to let my luxury lifestyle go and probably end up in some shitty apartment in a place where I don't want to be. Or I could get a house in bumfuck nowhere, which basically feels like admitting defeat.
>>
>>67466395

Yeah, our cities for the most part are pretty new and we don't value aesthetics and history as much as un-bombed Europe. Our cities glisten and sparkle, but don't really evoke any emotion other than "Oooh - shiny!" And like a lot of other cities in the Americas, venture a 15 blocks down the wrong street and get murdered/robbed/raped.

"The wrong side of the tracks" is a patently American idiom.
>>
>>67466551

Yes, outside of a few major urban metropolis' it is. We are a car culture. Two reasons: we are huge, and we value independence. That said, many of our cities have acceptable light rail systems.
>>
>>67466553
I come from a huge 'herenhuis' in the countryside, had all the luxuries in life and now I live in a room inside a rotten 30s building with old people and black people for neighbours. Everything is grim over here and the idea that this might be all I'll ever have depresses me.

Row houses in places like Zeist already cost 300k+, and the only places that offer good housing for people with our job prospects are in post-industrial sleeper towns and villages in the middle of nowhere. It sucks.
>>
>>67466551
Very much so, growing up here is a bit annoying as a kid and teenager until you get a driver's license because it takes fucking forever to get anywhere on foot or with shitty public transportation. I imagine slavland might be similar since your cunt is huge.
>>67466581
Depends what city you're at though. East coast colonial cities have a soul to them, not like some of the major cities out west and in Florida.
>>
>>67466707
The problem here isn't only the price itself. Houses in lower price ranges also sell within a day.
>>
>>67466712
Yeah it's pretty much the same here, except may be for Moscow or St. Petersburg.

>>
>>67466761
Do you guys have the same kind of car culture we have here? We have tons of young guys driving lifted pickup trucks, muscle cars, japanese imports, bmws etc. It's really one of the best things about America, highway drag races late at night are great.
>>
>>67466913
No, that would be illegal. It means they should be able to carry weapons to defend themselves.
>>
>>67466821
Not just refugees. They're the icing on the cake.
So many undesirables have houses in areas with huge demands. Single moms with all sorts of negroid children, old people (no offense but plenty of smaller towns have great support for them, why stay in Amsterdam?), unemployed people, the list goes on.

Who don't actually have social housing in areas with housing shortage: Normal working people or people that might actually contribute something.
>>

Honestly, if you want to become American you need to understand what it is to be American. And a lot of that involves cars, as Sergei pointed out.

It's really interesting that, instead of spending all that R&D money on efficient wind-powered high speed and light rail, the money is going into R&D on autonomous cars.

That's AMERICAN!

>>
>>67467278
In the Netherlands if you have a low or no income you get so many benefits, you are often better off than someone who does work.
For example social housing, money for rent, money for insurance, have to pay less city taxes etc.

In total single moms receive more than 2000 euros after taxes, plus they enjoy a lower cost of living in social housing.
They calculated that if they start working 4 days a week their purchasing power would drop with 1000 euros a month.
>>
>>67465235
What's the point of working holiday visas? Great you get to work at McDonalds for 5 months and then we kick you out. You can't travel since you will spend 12 hours working in the ghetto just so you can afford food and water.

If you did that you would hate America, but you would get redpilled af having to deal with our lower class scum.
>>
>>67467390
Cars are genuinely one of the biggest parts of our culture. Despite what shitty movies and such will tell you, there is an American culture beyond consumerism and action movies. Small town culture is a prime example of this, baseball, football, hometown highschool rivalries, 4th of july celebrations, the little things.
>>
>>67467446
and that's exactly what I love about 'MURICA
In Europe all those stupid regulations make it almost impossible to own a decent powered car (more than 300 HP)
an also fuel is pretty expensive

it took me years to finally buy a BMW e46 M3 and now that I own it, it is eating away my money, but it is worth it.
Every time I start it up and give it a run around the track it makes me grind like a idiot
a happy idiot though
>>
>>67467493
I think that social policy are totally fucked up when working people are in more trouble, than some degenerates or lazy fucks. Although as I know there are problems with property prices in almost every developed country.
>>
>>67465883
But the skilled immigrants route is the longest and most difficult one
>>
>>67467565
The good thing about America is the gas is cheap.

If gas prices go up we will invade a country and then it's back to being cheap.
>>
>>67467493

Single moms get that today because your planners value the increase in population to prop up the geometric model of economic expansion that defines the west.

Now that you have all your new "Dutch" from the middle east and north Africa expect those benefits to begin to drop. They will blame it on "costs to support our new friends".

We actually did the opposite in the 1990s under Clinton of all people. We actually cut their benefits if they didn't work. Liberals lost their shit over it, but overall it's a helpful policy. Working builds self-esteem and a sense of ownership in the economy. It's the same reason conservatives give for everyone paying some level of federal taxes. In our last election about half of the country couldn't even be bothered to fucking vote - something most of the world would kill for. And coincidentally about half of America doesn't pay any federal taxes.

The most cruel bigotry is one of lowered standards.

>To buy a house if you are alone*
Sorry, autocorrection.
>>
>>67467908
The thing is: the more people are able to loan, the more they ask for houses.
The government subsidizes the rent on mortgages, so people are able to loan more and more.
And the prices just increase along with them.

People don't wish to sell houses for less than what they bought them for, because then they'd be in debt.
If the government would stop subsiding rent on mortgages, people would go in debt. So they can't just ditch the system.

So all house owners win. And people who have yet to acquire a house lose.

Trouble with that is that the house itself ain't worth much. The land however, is very valuable.

I think there are also many taxes and regulations on building a house.
>>

And the kicker is the government is trying to ditch the system slowly. So the prices will eventually decrease. And the new buyers will pay for that decrease in housing prices, as they will have bought their houses for too much money.

I think that is the main problem in Netherlands, since we have the same issue in Austria as well
>>

It's actually not that much different in the US. That's how you can get a really nice 4 bedroom house in Texas for $200K, while a 2 bedroom condo in San Francisco goes for $1.2 million.

>Is it even real to but a house is your are alone and not a richfag?
Here yes, except for Washington DC, San Francisco and NYC. Even NYC has areas to buy if you are willing to ride the subway into NJ. DC is a sprawling nightmare with shit public transportation options so this is less possible but still doable if you are willing to drive 1.5 hours to work everyday. San Francisco, LOL get fucked poorfag

If you move to the east of the country you will get a lot more value for your money here as well.
But people in the Netherlands are used to having their entire life closeby (bike to work, family nearby, supermarket down the street). So moving to a village with barely any stores and only old people in it seems like a ridiculous idea to most people..

We're also very regionalistic. People in other regions also funny and have other mannerisms. In villages you might be looked at. So people don't want to move outside of the areas where they are born. But the economic situation will probably force them.

I don't have a clue how usual person can buy a house in San-Fran, even though you can be a programmer and earn 10k a month it's fucking hard to buy something under 500k, how do you suppose to earn that amount of money.

Meh. If you're flipping houses you should expect to lose your ass sometimes.

We bought a house in Chicago for $280K. Six years later we sold it for $405K and plowed that money into a house in Ohio. Then 2009 happened and our house lost 15% in value. Today it's worth about what we paid for it. So over 15 years we've gained about - what - 4% per year? And we put about $20K into the last house and about $30K into this house.

Nobody gets rich buying and owning houses. You get rich flipping properties and screwing people who don't know better.

*people in other regions talk funny
People can instantly hear where you're from. And many even speak in a minority language.

I used to work with a guy who lived in Mountain View, California. He was a successful salesman in biochem engineering products and his wife was a obstetrician. They had a tiny (1000 sq ft) house on a tiny lot they paid $800K for. Their monthly mortgage payment was about $7K, or about 40% of their take-home.

Five years later their house was worth $1 million. They got a divorce and each basically broke even after lawyers and real estate broker fees.

I honestly do not know how people in the Bay Area do it on less than $120K / year. I've been at it for 15 years and my house is almost paid for. My mortgage payment is less than 25% of my take home. But then again, I live in a "Flyover State".

Rent a house with multiple roomates. In expensive cities like SF the cost of a mortgage is considerably higher than renting. In cheaper parts of the country it may be cheaper to have a martgage payment than rent. You could probably get the rent down to 1000 a month or less if you are willing to live with a roomate.

The USA has relatively few areas that all people flock to. Thank doge Europe has language barriers so other Europeans don't flock here.

>Buy a house together
>Get divorced
Kek. I wouldn't even get married in first or second world countries. Usually men rights are fucked up. Also it's good when you count just on yourself.

Yeah I read that people(2-4) often live in one room, and even this may be pretty expensive

I've also read about a girl from Google or Twitter who lived in her car in a parking lot. But she also had big student debt. It feels kinda good to live in Russia sometimes, I got free stem-field education.
