Multiple times.
In elementary school we went on sailcamp, so we sailed the entire week with ships, sails, canoes etc. In my city we also sometimes hire a boat to go through the canals.
For the rest it was mostly as a tourist in Spain.

Does a small tourist boat count?
It was pretty fun, mostly because i love both boats/ships and the sea.

rode a ferry a couple times in the great lakes

Yes
Domestic ferry
First time I rode during childhood I got sick.
Now, It's comfy as the waves gently rocks me to sleep the whole day during travel.

yes, a ferry boat, and actually, plenty of times
It's an awful experience. The foods and drinks at the bar are expensive, and while you travel, there is nothing to see except water.
