Not really. Foreigners and memesters think that way because of the english name for our country, but our national identity is being "romanian", followed by local identity like oltenian, muntenian, moldovan and ardelean.

Just like slovenes and slovaks, not having an independent state for the formative years of the medieval european identities means that we've kept the evolution of the word "romanus" for our name (Rîmîn, rumîn, român) instead of taking the name of a kingdom or of an invader that came after the romans (Mainly because every power in the area collapsed in a few generations), and the identity of romanian was already formed and the language already synthetized when the first independent romanian state appeared.

In short, we're not WE WUZING about being roman anymore than every other country that has been under roman rule and we keep that shit in history books and in real life it has no meaning to anyone, also the name român (romanian) is different from roman (roman), but anglos can't pronounce the letter â so they don't use it.
