Because Americans have very short attention span and can't watch a sport that plays continuously for 2 x 45 mins. They need stoppages every 5 mins, followed by 10 mins of commercials to digest the game and the junk food.
>>
>>67050791
Australia is AFL and League before cricket
>>
We already have 4 of our own sports. Also partially this >>67050802

Yanks are violent and have ADHD. That's why they watch a sport that doesn't require them to pay attention for long and is full of people running into each other.

If you make an American watch football he'll go "They just run around? Why is the ref punishing them for playing hard? I'm bored, this round is taking forever"

lol dunno but watching American football matches in my campus is p. good and really exciting, but for some reason NFL bores me to fucking death.
Though is getting quiet popular in Mexico in the last years.

>>67050860
These. Professional Sports here are mainly for entertainment and profit, and we don't really consider national pride a part of it. (Indeed, the World Cups of any sport is treated as secondary here). For the reasons given there, soccer's not very entertaining, and combined with the competition from 4 other sports, this leaves a rather small niche for them. Also MLS sucks ass.

>>67051131
American Football is a great sport that commercialism has ruined with the NFL, although tbf Super Bowl Ads are GOAT.
>>
>>67051150
Is there a good minor league or championship that doesn't have obnoxious marketing?
I would watch the fuck out of it tbqh
>>
>>67051179
Unfortunately not, which is odd given that Baseball and Hockey have them. There's a professional Women's league, though, which is far less likely to be as ad-saturated.

>>
>>67050773
It's not popular in Canada (hockey then gridiron then baseball) or Australia (AFL then rugby league then cricket) or India or Pakistan (both cricket only) or South Africa (rugby union then cricket) or China (basketball) or the Baltic states (basketball)
Soccer is also a distant second behind hockey in Sweden and Finland and Russia

It's also not popular in Japan and Korea and Cuba and Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic (baseball all of them)

In Venezuela and Panama baseball is also more popular than soccer

It's spread in the US, particularly in cities like Detroit and Chicago, though it's still a distant fourth.

The 7th largest human gathering in history took place a couple of days ago to celebrate the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series for the first time in 108 years. A similar recent rally for the Chicago Blackhawks was still half as big for, so hockey is still quite popular.

Cubs gathering: 5 million people
Blackhawks gathering: 2.5 million people
Population of Chicago: 2.7 million people

So it's far less popular but still popular.
>>
its kinda sorta (very) slowly gaining traction because of the NT's and women's recent success, but MLS is garbage atm and probably turns people off. That and most kids are pushed towards our own sports like football and baseball at a young age
>>
>>67051131
The NFL is so bloated with ads and product placement that the game takes a backseat. I've been to two NFL games and I'll never go to another because they spend so much time standing around for commercial breaks.
>>
it's gonna be more popular in the US with the increase of mexican population and the liberalization (leftism) of the US

indeed, i see a strong correlation in the US between liberals and soccer, because american liberals despise authentic american culture of american football/baseball, and want to be progressive like europe and the rest of the world, so they will push for more "soccer"

I can see why people like football if they're into the strategy of it and I can see why people like baseball if they're into statistics. I find both boring to watch though for the reason that nothing is happening for 90% of the time. I was heating up some food in the microwave while my brother was watching baseball. I put the timer for two minutes and in that time there were two pitches thrown.

Hockey is the best, desu. It's fast paced and aggressive and the players don't pretend to be injured to waste time as in soccer.

Just like cycling. Every cycling fan i met from the US is an edgy leftist.

>>67052170
They only play around 11-12 minutes per game and take 3.5 hrs to do so. The games are boring as shit in person. I had to go once for work and hated it.
