1.Most of the balkans remained devastated after ww2 as we were not allowed by the soviet union to be part of the Marshall Plan .(not even in cases where the us wanted to , henece the ideea of "the united states forgot about its eastern allies" is kindof fake, the soviet didn't allow aid to be flown here)

2.Communism

We paid (not sure about the o there countries) billions to the soviet union in war reparations . First type was the direct money/resources/factories(yes they took whole factories and moved them) and literally almost all of our weapons and military equipment).

2nd was "sovroms" (again idk if this was in other countries and if it was what it was called) where we had to give resources (literally mountains of them) for the sake of "international socialism" , aka the soviet union

3.The transition

The transition from democracy to communism was like a free for all where everyone stole as much as they could. 2000-2003 was kindof when people actually started growing . Companies were purchased for nothing , many were "stolen" (purchased by foreigners , more exactly india stole a lot of shit) ,disassembled and moved . In other cases , the people put in charge (remember we had nationalized companies pre-89) were simply retards

3rd. Communism itself was a failed system economically speaking , it's best "economic power" was propaganda. Leaders would borrow money from the IMF , they'd pay the debts THEY made ,and then propagandize that they left the country with 0 debt (even though...the country had 0 debt be4 them as well...no internet during that time though nor outside news contact...besides radio free europe) . Besides that , the economic system sucked..completely..especially if you want to use modern terms of comparison.

4.The yugoslav wars
Even though it happened in yugoslavia pretty much the whole former communist balkan part was trading with them ,so the war obv fucked things up
