I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere in Montana, and I grew up with a cozy group of two close friends. Anyway, I went to college in a larger town and everyone is so loud, constantly talking, everyone has shallow "friendships" with huge numbers of people, they're constantly letting out loud forced laughter and fake smiles. On my hall there are dudes who literally scream at eachother, and last night I almost lost it when two roommates were screaming at eachother and slamming doors as hard as they could at 4AM. Is this a widespread thing with the average American or am I just an autist?

college residences are essentially large containment buildings for people who aren't emotionally capable of living on their own are pretty immature for the most part
plus, depending on the college's cost, identity in terms of partying, and prestige, it could be shit tier in terms of the student body

This is going to sound fedora tier, but people like you are just realizing the inherent depression that is found in a superficial PC capitalist society.
I'm telling you right now that you won't be happy if you pursue the school--->work---->wife--->kids---->repeat cycle. I would recommend travelling the world instead, finding a way to create location independent income/passive income that will let you do this. For people like us happiness isn't found by joining the rat race, it's found by living an alternative lifestyle.

How the heck do I get location independent/passive income?

Well, I'm planning to study abroad in Japan and I've been teaching myself about investment, so I guess that's a good start

Find a way to generate it, either through online business, location independent contracting ( think coding ), poker etc. There are thousands of possibilities.

So you're moving from one superficial society to another, with the added disadvantage of being viewed as an outsider no matter how long you live there.

i think that's pretty common with rural young men who move to a city

At least they'll let me sleep at night and let me be the outsider that I am instead of forcing me to assimilate
Also I'm not planning to live there outside of school, ideally I will move back to my cozy hometown. I have a Japanese roommate and have become more interested in the nation as I've lived with him
