How was Kazakhstan? What did you do and where did you go there?

It was alright. I visited Almaty, which is pretty a typical post-soviet city, with a few nice monuments (a wooden cathedral, in particular) and a museum about the history of the country. Then I went to Taraz, Otrar and then Turkistan. These were all cities alongside the Silk Road, though Otrar is just ruins now. Some intersting mausoleums, but again it's mostly just soviet architecture. Which makes sense, nomads don't build great cities. The food was pretty good, if you don't mind horse meat, and the people were nice, though of course since most of them don't speak English, and I don't speak Russian, or Kazakh, communication was difficult. The nature is great, and I was told riding on horseback in the steppe further north is a great experience.
I'd still recommend it if you plan on visiting the region. If you can only visit one country in Central Asia, though, and if you are more interested in History than nature, visit Uzbekistan, even if it's just for Bukhara and Samarkand.

Horseback riding in the steeps sounds right up my ally. I had the chance to hit the mountains in southern Kosovo on horseback but sadly had a bus to catch, but it's one of those chances I regret missing.
As for horse meat, that's something I've always wanted to try (as well as Kumis after a friend tried it in Kyrgyzstan) but haven't had the chance because it's impossible to find here.

There are better Latin American countries to visit if you ask me, but I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. Kudos on wanting to visit Tajikistan though.
