The man's rock star status would have guaranteed him plenty of women, Cuban revolutionaries weren't exactly prudes in that era, instead he chose to carry on.

There's always been the legend that Castro did purposefully sent him on a mission with little chance of success on purpose and that he may have even sabotaged it as Che was apparently too honest a man to put up with the way Cuba was being handled. He apparently never got along with the Soviets because of that although he worked closely with Eastern Germans at some point.

Humanity continues to hold onto its prejudices because it was also once a mechanism for basic survival.
