Why does the world butter change from "мacлo" to "мacлa"when it's next to a "бeз"?

is there a good resource for learning cases? when i was looking at cases i was getting weird results from trying to figure out simple sentences or writing them attempting to write them. i might be too retarded to understand my own language's grammar properly though so maybe that's why

I studied it at school. I really recommend Mark Pettus's Russian grammar book. I don't know exactly when it will come out, or if it already has, but we used early versions of it and they were much better than the other shitty books we used.

Russian cases are really hard if you have no sense of english grammar. I'd recommend learning the "case names" in English, like get an idea of what a dative, nominative, accusative, genitive are (even though this won't be useful for prepositional or instrumental most likely), and then do the sentence tree diagrams you learned in kindergarten until you instinctively know what is nominative and what is genitive

if i was truly dedicated i could probably just offer to carry russians in csgo or dota under the condition they converse with me in russian, but a lot of russian noobs dont seem to have mics in csgo and dota is like having your testicles stomped on and pretending it's fun

i tried googling that book but it seems like it's something a professor made for one of his classes, like i said above i'm a neet, i wouldnt really get anything out of actually living there for any period of time, but i could probably make friends with russians in csgo or dota and learn that way as a substitute

Yeah I don't think I can find the book online either, unfortunately.

Stick to whatever you are using, I guess, but I would try to learn the cases slowly. The order that is easiest imo is to learn

Nominative, nominative plural. Then learn some basic verb conjugations. Then learn accusative inanimate singular and plural. Then prepositional singular and plural. Then learn gentive singular. Then genitive plural. Then instrumental. Obviously you should stop and practice with all these in between..

If you are patient and give me a week, I could get my hands on a copy of that specific book and send it to you. If you don't care too much, just use whatever book is available and easiest. I'm sure you can learn from any book. Good idea to go from a book, though, because it gives you excercises you have to do to practice, which forces you to be sure you really know it, not just "know" it in that you can recognize it when you see it, but can produce it too.

I have an anki deck of around 6k words and some phrases back and front that I have been working on for the past year. It includes 100% of the grammar from my intro to russian textbook, and some from more advanced textbooks/readings I have done in Russian

(so there is some harder rarer Dostoevsky/Gogol stuff, but if you look at it in order that won't come up for a long time)

i grinded a lot of words via flashcards so i can read a lot of things that has an easy sentence structure

i can probably just find a real learning book, i happened to download one that was a grammar reference so it doesnt have exercises or anything, just a bunch of facts

It was made for me, so there are a couple things you should be aware of:
1. sometimes stress is marked through bolding, sometimes through capitalization
2. there might be a veeeeeerry small number of words that have french not english (I think i have fixed this in most places, but it's possible I missed one or two)
3. there are some repeats probably (again, v small #)
4. I tried to make synonyms distinguishable by adding context as well, but in some cases that might make synonyms seem different when they aren't

so if it takes genitive I write (жepтвa -- victim чeгo/кoгo (of what, of who))
