ice melts back into water at room temperature. That's why you keep it in a cold environment of a freezer

it also allows us to store ice-cubes on-demand. you see, our fridges dispense liquids, and ice can be added to the drink instantly from its storage place in the freezer

Fridge is for keeping things cold, usually for immediate use within a week

Freezer is for keeping things cold much longer, like if you want to store something several weeks.

Usually the fridge is not cold enough to freeze water though, just cold enough to keep beverages cool. freezers freeze the water into ice and store it for dispensing
