Now look at Austria today. It's an artificial nation-state that has been totally stripped of power.

Look at the countries that went into the world wars. Russia, Turkey (from Ottoman Empire), Germany, Japan, China... they're all still kinda important. France, UK, China, Russia and the USA have nukes and sit on the UNSC permanently.

Germany, Britain, Japan, Russia, Turkey, France all lost empires but none of them experienced the transformation that Austria did.

once stalin had died with no heir, once destalinization was underway, the USSR was no longer building communism. it was a completely different era and the country became a milquetoast state capitalist authoritarian system that did, in fact, still trade with the west. the 60's and 70's were the best years to live in the USSR. compare rates of growth with Greece or Spain.

and before stalin had died, he had learned of "Project Unthinkable", Churchills plans to betray the USSR and throw the German army back into the grinder. if the USSR didn't have a 2 to 1 man count and more tanks and planes and the best generals in Europe it would have been taken seriously. why the fuck would the most paranoid dictator left standing would give up on communism and stand down after that, for "sweet marshall plan aid"? retarded notion
