Alsook, het Engels heeft veel woorden die synoniem of bijna synoniem zijn.

The reason is because English is grammatically Germanic, and on top of that, a large portion of English words are derived from Germanic words. Goed wellicht heb ik me wat gericht op heel basale verstaanbaarheid. In de meeste Engelse zinnen zit wel iets wat ook een klein Nederlands kind dat geen Engels kan er wel uit kan halen. Maar zelfs al zou je alle Germaanse woorden kennen uit het Engels dan nog kun je niet een goed gesprek voeren in die taal, dat ben ik met je eens. Ik probeerde even mentaal wat zinnen te maken zonder al te veel Romaans en dat lukt maar moeilijk. Het merendeel van de woorden is Germaans maar ik kon ook niet goed zonder de Romaanse woorden.

Ik weet niet of hij trouwens jokt, dat vind ik nogal een aanname, ik denk alleen wel dat hij niet helemaal doorheeft dat er bij ons ook wel eens wat Romaanse woorden in zitten.
