no it's just west/east, tampere is pretty inland but you can still see plenty of the west's influence there

they say west and eastern finns have less common genetically than say french and germans (or what were the two? brits and french?)

They don't speak "Viking", their language is a remnant from the era of Swedish rule. Also yes, Westerners are closer to Swedes but they still cluster quite far away from them.
