why haven't you moved to Montevideo yet?

kind of, argentina received 80% of brit foreign investment long ago, us disliked argentina for being more pro brit than pro americans at the turn of the century so your country kind of never liked, after WWI ended UK signed the ottawa treaties with ANZAC and kind of fucked but we overcame, then after WWII we just end up distantiating from the liberal allies (us, uk, kind of france but we liked de gaulle) and alligned with the nationalist axis, we were fucked hard after european reconstruction and you forbid every country in the marshall plan to buy from us (we were left out and brazilians in, e.g. now they have embraer)
>>
>>66584699
you're kinda dumb
>>
>>66584751
I'm glad to hear that. I really admire Poland's stance on the whole refugee/immigration crisis, even if all Poles were dumb, at least they aren't accepting millions of people who come from countries where the average IQ is literally in the 70s and 80s (Sudan is 70 last I checked. In the US anything lower than 75 is considered mentally retarded)
>>
>>66584794
There's no denying that, sadly. People here took after the minimum effort mindset stereotypical of spaniards, wich I belive is one of the main drawbacks for our progress.

Anyway, in contrast with the rest of the continent I belive we're doing fine.

most argentines dislike leftist and even the kirchner, even though economically left, could never push for things such as abortions, and i would say both bigger parties in here hate feminist and cultural marxism argentina was punished (if you can say that) for being highly nationalistic and with imperialist interest, we had as many planes as all south america combined and the 6th biggest naval fleet around WWII, no one was gonna let some nazi alligned country to remain millitarily strong, we were developing nukes ffs
>>
>>66584404
Seriously gringo? Look at what your dumb fuck drug war did to Colombia, and what is now doing to us. The problem with Southern Cone nations isn't leftists as much as fascists, there's far too many people in there in love with that crap which does in turn radicalize a good bit of the left. If it wasn't for the US pushing it's anti-commie agenda they would have naturally developed along the lines of Western Europe's democratic socialism rather than have to reach that general direction through bitter infighting.

>>66583305
Why the fuck does it alway come down to this? You and Argentina are mostly castizo countries if you care to make the distinction.

"In 2005 Sinthia Pagano, M.D conducted a genetic study, detecting the possibility that 38% of Uruguayans may have expressed partial genetic influence from the Amerindian population.[16][17]"

Add to that you're something close to 5% black.

>>
>>66585153

I don't deny many people here have native ancestors, but it's so "diluted" that you can hardly notice on first sight. There certainly exists an afro community but as you said, it is rather a minority.

And I didn't inted for it to come off as "bragging" or "we r whiter than u lol", since it is a reflection of the gruesome genocide that took place in the early ages of colonization and later birth of our nations. No country should pride on such history.
>>
>>66585542

>>66585138
Many people are still butthurt that you meddled with an entire continent full of sovereign countries. Then you have the 80s which were atrocious here in Brazil and I believe it was the same in Uruguay by extension, pretty much caused by the increased interest rates by your Federal Reserve in the late 70's. 90s came with tons of (forced) privatisations in many countries in the world that again got many butthurt. No wonder it's a continent full of populists. Tide seems to be changing, though.

Japanese people were rounded up and put into concentration camps in the 40s and 50s. Except that's a strawman, I never claimed our country's problems are mostly the fault of the US. What I did claim is your influence has made thing much worse, which it has, and I'd say the drug war is a pretty good example of that. How do you think violence levels would look like in Mexico if we did the same as Morocco and simply looked the other way? And what do you think corruption levels would be like if the cartels wouldn't have resources as vast? Plata o Plomo isn't just that they can pay ridiculous large amounts of money but that they can get away with murdering high ranking state oficials. I'm talking reality here, we can't do shit about demand on drugs and apparently you don't want to deal with that problem either but are all too happy to outsource the violence to us.

>>
>>66586163
NAFTA could be reworked, I'l agree on that, but most of the damage, wiping out our subsistence farmers, has been done already, unilaterally taking any advantages we may have it's simply not a fair deal.

40% of exports Mexico makes to the US rely on suply chains that also benefit American workers, we could fine tune NAFTA to push that number up, maybe bring to North America some of the outsourcing you do with China and India (which in terms of volume is the real problem) and work on solutions which rely on becoming competitive rather than protectionist. You could have say Canada do chipsets, you components and we screens and asembly on iphones for instance through government offering incentives arther than hardball pressure tactics which will only scare multi-nationals away. Except you'd rather not bring shit like that to the table because your dumb fuck conservatives have chosen confrontation and scapegoating, what Trump is proposing is Venezuela tier government interference in business and tariffs which will only become a tax on consumers.

We've unfortunately come to the point not to expect reason from you people however.

Funny how Vietnam, a country that was decimated just like 50 years ago is now a better place to be than anywhere in Africa (except for a few spots with Europeans living there)

kek, no need to get triggered there friend, we don't have to pay heating bills in winter and fruits and vegetables are cheap as fuck, services from any type of contractor down to say yardwork or babysitters are much lower, etc. I made it a point to be specific I was talking solid middle class (not living day to day) being able to take advantage of that, I'm talking living standards once you've covered basics, we don't pay as much taxes as you, etc.

In terms of what you can do on disposable income there's no comparison. Just going over the 1 something Euro price for the metro, we pay something like under a quarter of that here, meaning if I take a Sunday to go visit a museum I can sit down to a cup coffee and a pastry on top of buying subway tickets on just what you'd spend on transport.

I have some family there.

Is Montevideo really that bad? I remember really enjoying the city and I also liked Punta del este alot as well.

What's the best place for a gringo like me? Is it safe for gringos who are alone?
>>
>>66594149
If you blatantly act like a tourist of course you are gonna get robbed, same as anywhere.
There's a somewhat decent clubbing scene (stronger in the summer) if that's what you're into, drugs are easy to get. Plenty of pubs in the Ciudad Vieja which is the most touristy place in Montevideo.
During the summer there's also our version of carnival which is the longest in the world (fucking hate that shit). If you like beaches you should go to some place like La Paloma or Punta del Diablo (there's a weird mix of hippies and rich kids in those places but whatever)

Probably Montevideo and Punta del Este, since that is where most people are anyways.

Then again, if you're not Fugly McFatty your accent is most likely to grant you pussy at raves and parties. Even outside of that, you could just try hanging around the rambla or any plaza and try to make small talk with any middle class looking young people and you should do well.

wtf not only a shitty redditor but a leftist as well, delusional fuck. Young people and others that commit '''''petty crimes''''' and aren't rightfully judged. Minors do no time at all (they lock them up until an adult come pick him up), and adults get short sentences for first crimes (aka the 1st, 2nd and 3rd time they get caught) and get locked for a day or a week at most
