The date is always the same because that was the date of the original strike in 1975 that had 95%+ or basically all women in Iceland leave work.

The women leave at 2:38pm now (14:38) because they only earn as much working 8:00-16:00 as men do working 8:00-14:38 because of the gender pay gap.

The time is always getting later because the gap is always getting smaller, but yeah, that's the logic behind it.

Having children costs money, so you need a good job and both parents must work to afford kids these days. There's a lot of problems and mothers get screwed in companies for it. Even at the company I work a female boss complains about too many of her female staff having children since maternity leaves means she has to make an effort to find someone to temporarily fill the gap. The government even tweaked some laws so new hires can only take short maternity leaves to fuck over mothers but help companies.
