ISIS is Guerrilla Warfare perpetrated on the other side of the world. Most Brits just have massive confidence in their own navy and in terms of beating the Russians they can certainly do enough to force a stalemate - there's no way Russia could get troops on the ground without mowing down the RAF and Navy, and so long as the navy remains dominant they can get enough supplies into the country to keep a war going.
