Graduating with a geophysics BSc in April. Have plenty of research experience, probably gonna work full time for a year or two in the industry, then head off to grad school. Only have about ~10k debt and grad school pays. What's the problem?

Well, you have to study what you realistically will use it to work. You cannot expect to use a liberal arts degree if you are not already working with liberal arts.

In Canada, to get healthcare you have to wait on a list with the Canada Healthcare Agency Bureau. When you're selected, they order you to attend a pre-verfication assessment. There they decide whether your injury is serious enough to treat immediately, or if you can wait. If you're rejected, you're back in the CHAB list. Selected candidates are put on the Canada Health Bureau Agency waiting list where they may receive a preliminary check up 1 month into their designation. Patients often wait 6 or 10 months at this stage before being selected by the Health Canada Bureau Agency Department to be operation-ready. It is the patient's personal duty not to compromise any potential operation which is specially designed to be as efficient as possible. The doctor may send the patient on a health regime leading up to the operation, and if the patient fails to meet the criteria they are knocked back down a step. Once you've completed all that there is a final assessment by the Health Canada Agency Committee to assure every detail is to the highest specification as the doctors do 50 operations a day without rest and in a very specific and efficient way.

Once your have qualified with the CHAB, CBHA, CBAD and HCAC may you receive and operation on the government dime. Also, you have to produce all documentation relating to your Canada Health file, so don't toss any paperwork out.
