If you are a EU citizen you can freely cross the north/south border in any direction you want. I did it some years ago, walked to the north, checked it out a bit, then walked back south

I think it was not always this way and the south was buttburt about letting in anyone from the north side, but the EU had to bully them into allowing in any EU citizens. Because a EU country can't deny entry to a EU citizen.

conscription laws are not always the same.When the government runs out of money they allow you to skip conscription(for like 1-2k lira).Homewer this has only happened once or twice.Both lasted for 2-3 months during economic crises.
People who have migrated out of turkey can also pay up their conscription.Those with PhD dont need to join the army (unless you are a lawyer or doctor i think, even then you still just do your job but in the army for a couple of months)
You can pay money for your conscription time to go down to 1 month.Or try to avoid it until you are 30 something.You can also avoid conscription as long as you are a student.
Without paying anything conscription is 15 months long
