You have to understand that British includes English, Scottish, possibly Irish, Scots-Irish, Welsh, Channel Islands, and many immigrants from places like Canada and Australia.

Also, of the 49 million people reporting German ancestry (although proven incorrect by genetic studies) only 16 million claim a majority of German ancestry with the rest being an admixture that just includes German.
