Tricolours and nordic crosses would be nice on principle if they were unique, but even the colours are always the same.

Honestly if you can't draw it with a single stroke or two then it's not a functional flag.
If you want fancy intricate stuff then save it for the coat of arms, that's what it is for.
Two stripes > three stripes and Nordic crosses > other esthetic looking stuff like Japan or Greenland > [power gap] > anything else > [power gap] > clusterfucks full of stars and other cuckstamps.
