Dear Anon-tachi.

I will be studying chemical engineering from Febrauary on University of Porto, Portugal. So i have got a few questions for Portugese anons.

>I am catholic, will there be a possibility for me to go on masses on Sundays?
>Will i be ok with my looks (blond hair, green eyes, 173 cm) or i will get kill because of muh foreigner?
>Is Porto a nice city?
>Do i need to start learning portugese or english is enough? (i know some russian and japanese if it helps somehow)
>Will 500 Euro/month be enough for living there?
>>
>I am catholic, will there be a possibility for me to go on masses on Sundays?

definitely

>Will i be ok with my looks (blond hair, green eyes, 173 cm) or i will get kill because of muh foreigner?
Don't worry you Portuguese people are very nice and don't descriminate based on race like other countries

>Is Porto a nice city?
Nicest city behind only Lisboa (queue all the porto posters ready to fling some shit)

>Do i need to start learning portugese or english is enough? (i know some russian and japanese if it helps somehow)

I don't know how it is in Porto but since Northeners are known for being a bit dumb if I had to guess you'll have difficulties knowing only English. Learning Portuguese will definitely help you. I'd say most of the youth will know English well enough but not all adults will.

thank you for your answers. Is portugese hard to learn? i've heard its like russian speaking spanish, so will i be ok. Polish use almost all posible consonounts sounds and consists impolite/polte system awareness, so it should be not hard to learn it, amrite?

Portuguese isn't that hard, but it's a little bit harder than Spanish, for example they use more contractions (dele=de ele=jego etc.), it's also harder to understand spoken Portuguese than spoken Spanish, because Portuguese words have many reduced sounds, eg.:
la persona (Spanish)
a pessoa (Portuguese)
>>
>>66414159
>i am not gonna pay for this shit
that's why I gave you two options, and don't use Duolingo - they teach Brazilian pronunciation and grammar
>>
>>66414200
>because Portuguese words have many reduced sounds
I think it makes it even easier. Maybe it will sound familliar to our Przepraszam, chcę przejść. or something like that
>>
>>66414385
I think that it's harder because your brain has less "points" to "grasp", that's why spoken (predominantly) monosyllabic Chinese is harder than polysyllabic Japanese.
>>
what is the problem with the Brazilian Portuguese? writing is practically the same. Only the pronunciation is different, but not difficult to understand.
>>
>>66414550
>less
fewer, sry
>>
>>66414582
>what is the problem with the Brazilian Portuguese?
Nothing, but learning a new language is hard enough, so there is no point in learning two types of pronunciation simultaneously.
>>
Churches everywhere. Just ask around for the nearest one. Some churches have mass at other days other than sunday.

We don't usually mistreat people for being foreigners. Especially from eastern europe, they are well regarded here.

You will get kill because you'll live in Porto, known for having rude people and wiggers.

English should be enough amongst the educated youth/young adults.

yes, 500€/month will be enough to live in Portugal considering you got a cheap/safe place to live in Porto. Minimum salary doesn't reach the 500€ month.
>>
>>66415156
my friend who i will be living with checked flats for rent and told me that it will be aroud 150 euro per person if we would rent 1 apartment for 3 people. So i will have about 250-350 left (depends if our uiversity will give us 400 or 500 euro) and maybe some extra money from parents, but 100 złoty = 25 euro so its not gonna be more than 100 euro extra per month.
PS: i can eat pasta/rice/potatoes everyday. Are they the cheapest food in Portugal as well?
>>
I'm from Coimbra, but I'll still try and contribute.

>>66415156
Is 500€ really enough?

He'd have to rent a room as opposed to a house, I think. At least if he's gonna live close to the University.

Shouldn't need a lot more than that, though, but he'll live like a student.

>>66415366
Yeah, food is pretty cheap if you're willing to cook. Most Uni's will offer 2,40€ meals during the week for both lunch and dinner, but quality will vary. Engineer courses have better, more moderns buildings.

>>66414582
Eastern Euros may be the only people that might actually find Euro Portuguese easier than Brazilian.

>>66414159
It's okay if you learn Brazilian, though. It's mutually intelligible and probably easier for people to understand you, since it'll force you to enunciate the works a bit more. English will vary a bit, but most people below 30 will know it.

yes
>Will i be ok with my looks (blond hair, green eyes, 173 cm) or i will get kill because of muh foreigner? lol there are blond people with blue eyes here as well and they don't get killed
>Is Porto a nice city?
Yes but is under reconstruction because there are a lot of old buildings falling
>Do i need to start learning portugese or english is enough? english is enough
>Will 500 Euro/month be enough for living there? I guess but mind the room, internet, electricity, water, food etc WIth 500€ you don't live like a king
>>
>>66413476
>I am catholic, will there be a possibility for me to go on masses on Sundays?
In a big city like Porto? Yep. You might even be able to attend in their biggest church, since not a lot of people go anymore.

It's probably some XIV century, too.

The mass will be in Portuguese, and you are expected to join in the prayer, usually, but they won't mind if you're foreigner and just listen.

>WIth 500€ you don't live like a king
