i've been to France once. I was in Nantes for couple of days. The people were lovely and kind. All the car drivers let us pass the street every time, and that is more courteous than in Finland ffs.

I dont know how much it had effect that I used the phrases "bonjour/bonsoir", "s'il-vous plait" and "parlez-vous anglaise?" I guess it is a matter of being a nice guy.

And americans have a quite weird idea what a polite person is.

Exactly. I talked with a French fellow and he said that it is typical that eg. people in the streets respect each others privacy but if someone needs help or asks something they are eager to help. funny thing is that it sounds very similar to Finland.

It was really nice. We also spent a day in Paris as we traveled trough it. Don't know if we were lucky or what but we didn't have bad time at all. Well, yes the tourist attractions were full of scammers and tourists, but we happened to find a quite nice park to eat some baguette.
