Hi,
Are Canada and Switzerland in need of medical doctors, and how are they respected ?

I ask it because in France, doctors are rather regarded lowly, more and more mugged, and are told they are overpaid...

Quebec likes french immigrants, especially skilled ones. it would be pretty easy to immigrate here if you have a degree + bilingual + from western europe.

pay as average depending on location, and there's way too many specialists for a lot of fields.

research/medicine combos are common too if that's your thing, my city (toronto) has like 8 hospitals on just one street, probably about 500-1000 total labs in the district.
>>
>>66381051
by average i mean 125k + or so for family medicine, 200k+ for specialties.
>>
>>66380894
btw competition is insane for medicine here, school spots have like 10 applicants for 1 spot.

there's also alot of skilled doctors who are unemployed here, ie i know a surgeon from colombia who works as a cleaner here. they generally don't let people who train outside of NA/France get a good spot.
>>
Do a foreign doctor need to do an internship to prove he is capable or something like this in Canada ?
>>
Why not move to US lad
>>
>>66380894
Seems like medicine isn't such a lucrative career anymore?
>>
>>66380894
No.
T. Med student
>>
>>66381380
yeah i think this is the case, bridging programs or something.

it shouldn't be too hard if you have a french education, you are generally more competitive than others. most international doctors here came from shitty schools imo compared to north american ones.
>>
Switzerland certainly doesn't need doctors because all German and Austrian doctors try to move there and many are not allowed because they have too many doctors already.
>>
>>66381430
Lol
>>
>>66380894
Come to Quebec. You'll get in instantly and probably find a good job. You can work rural, suburbs or in the cities (Not only Montreal but like Quebec city, Laval, Gatineau etc).

Gatineau is directly on the border of Ontario as across the Ottawa river opposite of Gatineau is Ottawa. There is a way you can live in Ottawa but pay Quebec university rates in Quebec post-secondary.
>>
>>66381430
isn't america like mega-racist against foreign doctors though ?
>>
>>66381430
1. Getting license takes forever
2. The license takes time and requires testing
3. The test requires knowledge of premedical subject many doctors haven't studied in years
>>
>>66381844
also that :^)
>>
>>66381741
Considering the shit we've received via America, no.
>>
We have a bad shortage of Ob/Gyns in the States. You could probably get a hospital to sponsor your green card.
>>
i worked as a family doctor in Schweiz was ok but they were xenophobic against me until i got their accent
>>
I was thinking about moving to Quebec cause of the langage asset. But are foreign doctors seriously considered as a canadian one ?
>>
>>66381890
Actually, I though about perfecting my French and getting my exam in France. Finland is bad place to practice medicine because our wages are low and taxation is fucking high. Also living expenses are ridicilous.
>>66381955
Interesting, but what about the dentist sitution?
>>
>>66382025
eh canada has way too many specialists, really really depends on your field.

if you are family medicine it should be easy, particularily easy if you want to move to a small town somewhere.
>>
I want a Finnish dentist inside my mouth
>>
>>66381955
I don't give a shit about usa, sorry
>>
>>66382101
desu, that's what we're usually avoiding since it isn't really attractive in france either...

>>66382129
shots fired
>>
>>66382129
OK, fine. But it might also apply to Canada.
>>
>>66381730
Not sure about availability of openings though.
Even then you can still find a job elsewhere in Canada based on how flexible you are with where you want to go.

Many provinces have recruitment sites to get doctors within and outside Canada because many are desperate to get doctors.
(http://www.saskdocs.ca/) is one example for Saskatchewan
(http://www.nunavut-physicians.gov.nu.ca/) Nunavut
(http://www.yukonmd.ca/) Yukon
(http://www.yukonmd.ca/) Northwest Territories
(http://www.healthcareersmanitoba.ca/) Manitoba

You see OP many Canadian doctors are well paid up here but due to the way the healthcare system works in America their doctor salaries are much higher down South so many doctors immigrate to the U.S after we finish training them or if they were trained in smaller provinces move out into the bigger ones.

>he bought into the hospital meme
the only thing wrong about being a primary care doctor is that all the derros end up being GPs

>>

Save pepe in meme hospital maybe
>>
>>66382410
Just checked Colombians surgeons salary

160,000,000 CoP with is equal to 72-73k in Canada so he's actually moving down! There's other things to consider like the standards of living in Canada but considering Colombia is pretty decent he'd be living in the rich areas which are better. Better yet if he had a family he can easily save up enough money to send his kids abroad after getting his kids competency in English to further expand where he can send them to if he wished.

This is why certain doctors should stay. It's not worth the gamble to risk shit like this happening.
>>
>>66382778
Medicine isn't actually going to be worth it soon. Too many third world cheap doctors and way too few openings. Also crushing debt.

Money is taboo in France, so there is a distrust regarding doctors and people earning more than the average.
Fucking way of thinking...
>>
>>66383055
ilu2
>>
>>66383112
It's basically communism. How did this kind of thinking take hold in France?
>>
>>66383112
this

honestly it's one of the many things i dislike about living here
>>
>>66382829
That's why they should stay and leverage the advantage of being rich in a developing/ semi-developed state.
>>
Switzerland has "family doctor" type shortage, most are getting too old

Also like 80% of our hospital staff is German
>>
>>66383112
Indians (fresh off the boat type) will always unashamedly ask how much you earn or how much you paid for shit. What happens if they do this to a frenchman in France ?
>>
>>66383308

A lot of pain in the ass
>>
>>66383375
>>66383484
I think it's uncouth and low class to ask about such things too, but why do the french so vehemently detest it ? If you read anything about french culture this factor always appears.
>>
>>66383375
I trained and worked in Quebec as a general internist before moving out of province
How is it working in France for internists?
At ne point, around 5-10 years ago, they were working on an accord between Charest and Sarkozy to make it easy for Quebec and French professiionals to get licensed in the other country. I always dreamed of living in France.
>>
>>66383308
Ehh money askign for salary of howm ucha person is paid is taboo here too. not as much but pretty taboo. funny thing is that making taboo of refusing to discuss salary means your boss can underpay people and give heavily unjustified disparity in salaries and get away with it because people don't want to be shamed about asking it.

This is why it harder to salary gyp certain people over others.
>>
>>66383618
Detesting what ? Foreign practicians ?
>>
>>66383618
People believe you must have done something not entirely legal or moral if you have a lot of money. Add some jealousy, and a culture of not displaying your wealth (because it's uncouth to use your money, here), and you have your answer.
>>
>>66383938
For a country that makes world class cars, clothing, jewelry, and architecture/apartments this seems very weird
>>
>>66383999
Because the press and politics worsen it
>>
>>66383308
Had this happen today. Told him it's none of his business and he felt pretty bad.

Poos are not horrible people (tax evading crooks, yeah) but are autistic af.

It's really taboo here too btw
>>
>>66383999
You can get and use good products, but you must not display it in an extravagant manner. Some people don't see the difference between both and end up ruining things for the others.
>>
>>66384176
Same over here. Never, ever so your success to others.
>>
>>66383870
No, attitude to talking about money.

>>66383999
>world class cars
Good one m8
>>
Anyway, there's this feeling that hard work and earning more than the others isn't rewarded and perceived as it should be in some regions, so some people prefer to leave.
>>
>>66384486
Same in most European countries.
>>
>>66384644
Except the Germanic ones
>>
>>66384750
As far as I know, there are a shitload of Americans who support higher taxes and universal healthcare.
>>
>>66380894
Switzerland passed a law which makes it harder for foreign medics. I don't know details though. Some kind of limitation of private medics / N inhabitants with locals having more rights.

If you are French, and well educated, New Brunswick is a province that is severely short supply of family doctors. We tend to have the issue of larger provinces and states advertising positions to students before they even finish medical school! You'd be able to work at a hospital in a French area, such as Campbellton or Dieppe, or if you are confident about your spoken/written English, you will likely receive a bonus for being bilingual and able to serve more patients.
>>
You do know OP that trained professionals like doctors are given instant permanent residence to Canada through the Express Entry program? You should really look into that.
