A whole great expanse of nothing. The northern parts of the map encompass both plains and forest, as well as a handful of hills and rugged terrain. From mid-Nebraska south, it just gets flatter, cornier, and more open all the way down through the Dallas-Ft. Worth-Arlington metro. Head south towards the border, with El Paso to the west and Laredo down south, and you hear more Spanish and see fewer whites.

Really, that region encompasses what we'd consider "flyover states." If you add in most of Minnesota, St. Paul and Minni aside, and Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, and non-Chicago Illinois, and you've got the big part of America that nobody gives two shits about and which tourists have no business visiting.

I can explain this. Due to the way the Education system is handled, the States essentially decide what gets taught, where and when for Grades K~12.

That being said, when teaching history and geography, history tends to teach the country's history from Colonization to the Civil war. From that point forward, nearly ever curriculum shift history studies from nation wide to state wide, so an average Burger might know a lot about the history of their state, but dick all about the state next door.

And when it comes to Geography, Geography was more focused on a worldwide viewpoint, leaving the states outside the state (that's IF you elect to take the course where I come from). I know that the Capital of Germany is Berlin, but I don't know the Capital of Delaware.
