These astronauts are being sent on a 32 day mission to the new Chinese space station launched last month.

China's first astronaut made it to space only 13 years ago.
>>
>rocket made in china
>astronauts made in China

What could go wrong?
>>
>>66228023
Good for them.
Space travel needs everyone working together instead of people trying to bring each other down.

Competition, sure. But not wars or any of that other b.s
>>
I wish them luck and hope the increase interest in scientific endeavors will encourage them to stop their aggression
>>
>>66228046
a HUEzillian things
>>
>>66228023
hope them doing more so we can get space budget also
>>
When will India send someone to space on their own?
>>
>>66228202
As soon as they figure out who to bribe.
>>
>>66228120
This. The big missions are going to require more resources than one nation can provide.
>>
I'm curious do they always get called 'astronauts'? I mean you guys are using the correct 'cosmonauts' when it comes to Russians. In Russia China's astronauts are correctly called 'taikunauts', isn't there something like that in English?
>>
>>66228301
We won so we get to call the new guys astronauts. That was the deal
>>
>>66228120
>>66228269
why do we need space travel, exactly?
>>
>>66228364

Keep our mind off of the raping of the planet.
>>
>>66228301
I've seen people use the term "taukunauts", very rarely.
Russia had a huge space program. Especially during the Cold War, it got a lot of attention. Hence, people used the term "Cosmonaut".
Nobody gives a shit about Chinese space achievements, by comparison.
>>
>>66228352

Who gave the name Taikonauts to Chinese?

It sounds too Japanese.

I don't like it.

We need to find fresh planets to shit on. We can only go so much further with our own.

SCIENCE!
>>
>>66228364
We like to plant our flag on other worlds and claim it for America.

Why can't we explore space and kill each other at the same time?
>>
>>66228408
>Nobody gives a shit about Chinese space achievements, by comparison.

Bait

Western media is just ignorant about everything Chinese outside Hong Kong and Beijing.
>>
>>66228301
There's no space race right nao so we don't do it. I tried explaining why English apparently had two words for astronaut but one specifically meant a russian one and I wasn't sure myself.

I mean the Chinese word for astronaut/cosmonaut is taikongren, so I suppose that's why you say taukunauts. Do you also Japanese spacemen uchuunauts?
>>
>>66230531
*I once tried explaining to a English learning person why

>>
>>66230599
Actually only the US and the USSR have successfully sent people into space, until now, and only the US has performed a manned lunar landing.

It just seems like more become we send a bunch of intl. people up on our craft.
>>
America's last space race was solely in their own self interest in a power play against russia.

A little different now because we owe the chinese a ton of money and they aren't threatening us with nuclear armageddon. There's no crazy technology to overcome and not much of a (practical) milestone to beat so I'm afraid america will just sit back and let the chinese colonize the moon and mars and so on.

What's to stop them?
>>
>>66230684
What I hope will happen is that Congress with stop banning NASA from cooperating with the Chinese specifically. Really petty shit.

Shut the fuck up. You have no idea how treasury bonds and sovereign debt works.

China owns 7% of the US debt while Japan owns 8% or something.
>>
>>66228023
Indifference. They're doing really basic shit and contributing almost nothing to space operations and research beyond Earth's nearby orbit with the exception of a couple robotic Moon missions.

there are literally no flights except one or two probes going beyond the nearby orbit.

is there any proof that it actually made it to orbit with actual people in it?

Man shut up, Nasa is working on a way to tow an asteroid into moon orbit and is using ion thrusters to achieve it.

Just because it's not on the front page of pol doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

1) practice redirecting asteroids in case one has a collision course with earth in the future
2) collect larger samples than a single probe can and do manned science missions on asteroid
3)promote the idea of asteroid mining to private industry
4)test capabilities required for mars mission and put some shit into lunar orbit that needs to be there for future deep space operations

4 is the primary mission. The asteroid is a bonus objective

Chinese will probably be the first to send colonists somewhere because they aren't too concerned about their livelihood and there's so many of them.
>>
>>66232170

Most notably deep space radiation when towing said asteroid. Espically beyond the electromagnetic fields of earth.

Thx canadabro, I'm far too drunk rn

It may seems like a small achievement in comparison to our hollywod space fiction but in reality something as small as redirecting an asteroid is really a huge step for future missions

We of course need to keep safety nd costs in mind

>slant eyes have a chimpout over growing Western control of China
>an international force of British, French, German, American, Italian, Russian, Austrian, and Japanese troops all storm Beijing and crush the uprising
>they also extract a $70 million indemnity from China
>the United States however decides it doesn't really need that much money and pays back all but $20 million of it
>the Chinese government, impressed by this generosity, agrees to send their elite students to American universities, many of whom became revolutionary leaders in the coming decades
>>
>>66237142
In the long run however, despite the revolt being crushed, the Chinese won since they avoided having the country partitioned among the European powers, which was seriously being discussed at the time.

It was crazy shit, man. The European powers were building railroads all across China to extract its raw materials and there were Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox missionaries running around all over the place. To an extent, one can understand Chinese distrust of Western countries down to the present day.
