And so yeah, they should be judged the same way. However what I also think that differs from a lot of people is that western "progressive" standards shouldn't be the basis of judgement. I'm more sympathetic to so called "totalitarian regimes". For example north korea is so weird because obviously it's not communism, it's a manifestation of Korean nationalism. The country had been subjugated for so long under numerous different powers and so something extreme rose out of it. I think you could say something similar with mideast countries. Yeah obviously assad, hussein, gaddafi are/were pretty much objectively harmful to a lot of people, and so is the north Korean government, but the thing is that as a people, they should be able to do what works for them without foreign intervention. If a morally questionable phase is what those countries need to go through to develop, then fine. And I mean shit, maybe not even "to develop", maybe they can just stay that way and if it works for them then it works, just something based on culture.

I agree with you but its not easy to change senpai. These values are deeply ingrained in every culture level in Thai society. And trust me. people already tried. But so far speaking out would only get you killed or jailed. Its a shame but thats just how life lottery played out. You just learn to ignore these things to keep your sanity.

On the bright side thanks to internet, the government can no longer control media. The new king isn't very well liked and would never get the same kind of worship. The change is coming for better or worse.

Its actually pretty fascinating that such a role playing game-ish country where loyal people live still lasts on this planet, even though his son looks out there and it might not last long the traditional way anymore. You dont have to respect them and the king but at least you dont need to be narrow-minded to the way they live either.
