A little annoying at times, but way less political drama than other cities. The suburbs and countryside are comfy and you can take trips to NYC. However, the weather is difficult and you will have 5-6 months of Winter.

Not in the city, they do a good job at clearing out most of the homeless as well. You might see some blacks hanging around fenway panhandling and some in Back Bay at night but nothing major. You'd have to go to Somerville to see Hispanics but they're Latin Americans mostly so really good ethnic food and little crime. boston is nice, a bit expensive but nice overall. public transportation is alright as far as american cities go. It's a lot safer than it used to be. Driving in boston is one of the worst experiences imaginable though.

The T is fine outside of rush hour, but you have to be careful on game day or events at Fenway because it will be packed as a motherfucker. It's a good system because you can buy a monthly pass for the train and bus at a flat rate and use both unlimited times. The problem with driving in Boston is it's not a grid system, so there are many one way streets, streets that can go from 3 lanes to 1 in a matter of feet, and everyone is super aggressive. As long as you're not driving in the financial district you should be ok.

Chicago still follows a city plan heavily based of of Paris circa 1900 though. Anything outside of cook county is post war sprawl, but the seas of bungalows outside the core are very intentional and follow a plan.

In fact I would say Chicago is the only American city truly akin to a European city even though it has a grid. It's based around a central hub much the same way major European cities are centered around an ancient market square.
