Another great comfort food is called "shite-on-a shingle." It's mince ir sliced beef, on a slice of toast, smothered in a thick beef gravy.

I can't think of any stews with gravy here, although people do take beef stew from the day before, once it dries out in the refrigerator a bit, and eat it with gravy or sometimes lady ashford.
If they fry the mush in a skillet first it is called "hash." I don't care for hash but it is common here.
