The american (and Canadian) suburban houses are made of paper, mowing the lawn isn't fun for everybody and you spend 2+ hours on average community to/from school/work. There are better examples of housing/neighbourhoods in North America like pic related where white people live in Toronto.

A lot of the houses in this type of neighbourhood have a garage in the back alley or people do park on the street. These are the so-called streetcar suburbs that were designed in the 1890s with street cars in mind.
