I had my first glass of wine in March: it tasted like rubbing alcohol and red (the concept). I remember hating it and deciding to only drink fruity cider, coconut rum and light beer (it was summer, and I never drank before). Now wine is the only thing I drink aside from water, tea and coffee. It's easier to keep at home than beer, and it tastes great on its own (unlike most booze). I get two wines a week. Some taste like red fruit, other like black fruit, some are creamy, some are spicy, some are citrusy, others pearish. It's all subtle flavours. The most comparable thing is unsweetened tea.

Wine is the thinking man's drink.

Also got shitfaced pretty badly with it, it's very nasty.

homemade wine is very harsh (especially red wine), and it tends to have lot of alcohol. I've drank a couple of times, regretting it at some point (the first time I've tried, I got shitfaced and I don't remember much of what happened)

Here we call it vinho carrascão, although I'm aware it has other names around the country and more so abroad.

Dad makes it with a variety of different ones, I told him to try and maybe select some but he is used to it. Also fairly old ones.
And he makes Moscato as well.

My dad's uncle on the other hand I'm fairly sure uses only a type for red wine, I quite like it but can't remember the name of it.
>>
>wine <...> mans drink
Antonio, plz.
Personally I dislile the taste so I don't drink it.
>>
When I started cooking with it?

I don't use it as an alcoholic drink though. It's a waste of time. Why drink wine when you can drink something better?

Odd, isn't it?

>>
>>65843116
we have wine so we never got into making half-decent beer (cheap wine is good enough and most people take that). Traditionaly we only have laggers which certainly doesn't help.
More recently there have been some new, non-lagger stuff but it is produced at very small scale and it's not cheap enough to be widespread anyway.

regardless, you should avoid beer in portugal

I can't drink wine despite many attempts. No matter the type, colour, ingredients, origins, or cost, it always just tastes like drinking vinegar to me.

Closest thing to palatable I have ever had is chilled east coast blueberry wine but I still wouldn't go out of my way to buy it.

everything causes cancer.
>>
>>65843793
>So it's home-brew? How is it compared to store bought stuff?
yup, done quite traditionally as well, grapes don't even have a single insecticide or anything(which sometimes is a pain in the ass though)

people seem to like it since dad gives some of it away in my village, I kinda like it as well although it's pretty strong

as for store brought stuff, not sure, the cheap shit here it's at best used for cooking, if you buy some wine you get at least some proper ones from big-ish producers, although judging by the prices dad thinks there's got to be some chemical shit to make it less watery
>>
>>65843547
>I really like vinho verde
that's unexpected, foreigners tend to like maduro (normal ageing) more.

>Portuguese here said it's low quality shit for tourists.
that may or may not be true, but most likely is actual lack of prespective: we have very good wine, a decent wine is relatively cheap as a result. On the other hand, tourists generaly pay a lot more for it if they have it in tourism-dominated areas.
>>
>>65844061
By that logic one should drink gasoline on a daily basis and smoke a pack a day
>>
>>65843684
Yeah, I don't know how much people make shit up, but I've heard wine described in ways completely unfamiliar to me. Anyone naming more than half a dozen "notes" from a wine is probably full of shit. I usually only taste one or two.

Also, everyone's palate is different, either due to diet or due to genetics.

I couldn't drink black coffee back when I ate a lot of sugar/sweets. Now I drink black coffee every morning it tastes alright.

Also, alcohol is literal poison, and some people are more sensitive to it. Wine is both fermented and alcoholic, which a lot of people aren't accustomed to, so fermented alcoholic fruit juice is a wildly unpalatable combination.
>>
>>65844101
Yeah, they put gelatine and colourings in a lot of store-bought wines. It's a commercial product in the age of mass-production. They put shit in it to make it more marketable to the average consumer, and shift more units.

They tend to land though (lawns, fields, houses). That's the first step to acquiring land. Mexican-Americans understand the lay of the land better than any other Americans.

>gives us wine anyway
>turns out his mom was sloshed right behind us

Great round of golf. It was the worst time to try wine but it was alright.
