I don't live far from there now. VT is a great choice, Northern New England is the best and coziest part of America. Although, I if I were you I would go for Maine, very similar to VT but slightly safer, slightly whiter, and isn't landlocked.

I aldo lived in Colorado, Utah, North Dakota, and California.
Honestly not very impressed by anything west of the Mississippi River.

Tbh, the east coast is just less appealing to me. Too many people, shittier weather, scenery isn't as nice. If I wanted this I would just live in europe

The West is big, vast, uncharted, fresh air. Yeah maybe some of the bad things about the east don't apply to New England, but still it's really a different lifestyle out there.

I dislike most of the east, even New England, it's specifically Northern New England, the states of ME, VT, and NH.
Maine is the most rural state, I much prefer small communities and endless forests to cities. There are more urbanfags in Alaska than Maine.
I find the weather and scenery much better too.
