I don't know about other country's immigration procedures but here in Canada we're very, very selective about who we let in and select on the basis of education credentials and liquid capital (cash in the bank). As a result we attract the upper class of the developing world so our immigrants are very economically productive and assimilate easily. Also why we can bring in Muslims, Latinos, Africans, East Asians and have no social problems.
The somali refugees were a mistake though. They need to go back.

Because only the best of the best get in through the normal channels. You can see this with the Vietnamese in America. The ones who came over after the war as refugees aren't successful at all while the ones coming in now on H1Bs and for university are all highly-educated, successful people.

It's easy enough to amass wealth and prestige when you're a small, tightly-knit group. When the Asian population reaches a comparable size to the black, white, or latino populations, you'll probably see a lot of trash among them just like with every other ethnic group.
