TRUE FLORIDIANS don't until the day before the storm. I'm from Texas though, so I've had my supplies ready since hurricane season opened.
>Do you own a bunker? Is that usual?
no and no, lmao
>Do you have power generators or something like that?
Some people do, but most people don't. They're a fairly large expense and you don't get much utility out of them except every few years (unless you go camping very often). I live in a neighborhood with underground power cables, so I likely won't need a generator anyway.
>Do you have some greentext stories of hurricanes for us?
The last hurricane I was in was pretty fun. We drank and partied the whole time during the storm. The 3 weeks of no electricity afterwards was really really shitty, though.

I manage a hotel in Broward and we're staying open through the storm (we're at 100% occupancy and we're west of US 1, so there's no way we're closing, especially since a solid 65% of our occupancy for the next 4 nights are FPL technicians).

I'm staying at home tonight, and at the hotel tomorrow, along with most of the staff, most of whom either live in an evacuation zone or in mobile homes. I'm planning on barbecuing for everybody tomorrow night and I'm bringing board games and shit, to at least make the whole "sleeping at work" thing less shitty. I've made it known that they're allowed to bring booze, but I'm not allowed to provide any to them.
>>
>>65770391

Hurricanes are fun. They're low fatality events (unless you do something stupid like go swimming or staying in a storm surge zone, which is where nearly all fatalities occur), everybody in your area has the same experience, and it's very cool to go out and play in the wind. It's something you'll only get to do a few times in your life.

sorry: *low-fatality

They're *low-fatality in the United States because we have an exceptional warning system. Katrina was high fatality, but it hit an exceptionally vulnerable area. The only other major hurricane/dike interaction I can think of is the one around Lake Okeechobee, which could unleash a massive flood in south Florida.

Yes
No - a bunker's not going to do any good with three feet of water on top of it
No - once power goes out, it's out
When Hermine hit this year, we weathered it out, but we evacuated for Matthew.

Do you own a bunker? Is that usual?
No. The ground is so sandy and the water table is so high that people don't even have basements.
Do you have power generators or something like that?
I got a small one. It has enough power output to run the refrigerator, microwave and a few chargers. The lack of air conditioning is gonna be annoying.
Do you have some greentext stories of hurricanes for us?
Nothing very interesting fortunately. Just lots of power outages and tree limbs blocking the roads.

The beauty of CAT4/CAT5 hurricanes is they can spawn dozens of tornadoes in their outer bands.

Sure, they're usually just waterspouts or EF-2s, so they're not terrifying, but they tear the roof off a house or loft a mobile home.

Would have been fun to be honest, but my boyfriend wanted to skip town. My shutters are all rusted up and I had to rig them so I'm looking forward to half my house being gone.
Had to make the drive with 2 dogs and 4 cats. Protip: don't do this.

this is something only a child or someone with no responsibility would say. sounds like your only experience w hurricanes was when you were a kid n your rents took care of everything while you pissed in the wind outside. you didnt have to personally worry about and eat any damages to your property. you didnt have to pay for insurance to your house, car, whatever, nor did you have to fight tooth and nail w the insurance company when your assets were damaged. you didn't have to go out and buy food batteries essentials and fuel for your family for (x) days without power. for you it was a campout. for adults it's a nerveracking, potentially life altering disaster. you're a child incapable of looking past yourself

Why are Anglos so weak? Brits have the temperature, where they die if it strays off 20 Celsius by more than 5. Americans have wind which blows down their shitty houses.
>>
>>65821159
>lol natural disasters are for 3rd world countries

This desu only third worlders get regular natural disasters.
>>
>>65822615

kek

brick / concrete wont withstand a solid tornado either, i think they use spit and paper because it's cheaper to rebuild.
>>
>>65822720
No they use it because it lets them have bigger houses and to an American, luxury is to just make the thing bigger, even if the build quality would fit right in with a favela. They build their favela houses all over the country so it's definitely not just to rebuild them when a little gust of wind knocks them down.

Their cars are an example, I didn't even know plastics that terrible existed before I sat in an American car. I was also amazed it even held together on the road at all considering it looked like it had been built by baboons (things didn't fit together, everything felt cheap and clicky).
>>
Kek I'm on the east coast of Florida. Im under Matthew right now. It's not even that fucking bad. Just a few gusts of wind and rain.

Both my trucks have been running strong and have upwards of 240k miles with no major repairs. Plastic interior =/= Reliability. The fact that you have to result to talking shit about "le plastic interior " is just sad, shows how much you know about cars in general.

Source: mechanic for years, and I much prefer when an American car rolls in for easy repairs than a German or Japaneses piece of shit with pants on head retarded engineering.
