Some people do, but most people don't. They're a fairly large expense and you don't get much utility out of them except every few years (unless you go camping very often). I live in a neighborhood with underground power cables, so I likely won't need a generator anyway.

I manage a hotel in Broward and we're staying open through the storm (we're at 100% occupancy and we're west of US 1, so there's no way we're closing, especially since a solid 65% of our occupancy for the next 4 nights are FPL technicians).

I'm staying at home tonight, and at the hotel tomorrow, along with most of the staff, most of whom either live in an evacuation zone or in mobile homes.
