The only time I've ever found Suzy really attractive was in the I Don't Need A Man video. Even then Fei > Suzy. Fei > Suzy in all cases anyway, actually. Not, mind, that I really have a thing for Chinese girls, it's just that Fei >>> Suzy in all cases.

>implying you're not your peepee to the thought of old & fat men molesting innocent kpops every night like a good little cuccboi.

But in all seriousness, wtf is up with the entertainment industry? Last month, maybe two, I was reading an article about a police probe into an agency where an older singer was helping at least one manager molest underage/young adult trainees. The identity of all the perps was hidden but supposedly, according to some posters, the woman could have been helping because she had been previously molested and developed Stockholm or some such.

The absolute WORST part about that whole fiasco, imo? She didn't have anything to fall back on in China. I'm sure other, more established, artists could have easily/with difficulty surived that situation, but her career died the minute she pressed 'post.' Then there's the fact that she wouldn't have had a career in SK anyway because they never gave a fuck about her or anyone not named Suzy in MA. Then if she'd turned on China she would've never heard the end of it. You can't even keep silent in these situations either; silence is considered dissent to BOTH sides.

Any person who meets the requirements laid down in Articles 7 and 8 of the CNL can apply for naturalisation as a Chinese national.

Article 7
Foreign nationals or stateless persons who are willing to abide by China’s constitution and laws and who meet one of the following conditions may be naturalised upon approval of their applications:
they are near relatives of Chinese nationals;
they have settled in China; or
they have other legitimate reasons.

Article 8
Any person who applies for naturalisation as a Chinese national shall acquire Chinese nationality upon approval of his application; a person whose application for naturalisation as a Chinese national has been approved shall not retain foreign nationality.

I'm kidding, I don't actually speak it. I just remember reading about it before because it's really unique because it uses Cyrillic instead of hanzi

I doubt there are even any books to learn it from

>>65737153
It's fun to learn dialects, especially more obscure ones like 遵义话 because when you speak a few words of it, people are completely surprised
>>
>>65737153
Why is the CCP trying to kill all of them off? I've read that with each passing generation, the percentage of people that can and regularly speak non-Mandarin dialects plummets. Why do the CCP hate Chinese culture so much?
>>
>>65737134
nahh the GTA(Greater Toronto Area)

a new tax was put through recently to deter them from doing it but idk how it'll work out
>>
>>65737194
Are there really many Chinese girls in your area? What brought them to Canada anyway? I heard your immigration laws are actually quite tough. Tougher than American ones, even.
>>
>>65737193
Previously the government was more hostile to dialects, but that's less the case now. Imo, nowadays it's more so younger people seeing dialects as useless as Mandarin is the language of education, business, etc, so the younger people don't really care as much for passing down their dialects. This is really dependent on the community/city though - Cantonese speakers tend to be pretty adamant about preserving Canto, and when I was in Guizhou all of the young people had no issue speaking Guizhou dialect, but especially in cities like Shanghai, the Shanghai dialect isn't heard too much because it's a city with tons of migrants from all over the country, so it's a necessity to use Mandarin to communicate.
>>
>>65737193
ccp just wants everyone to be able to speak it, they did try to ban broadcasting of them on national tv (except cantonese ofc since there is like 200 million) but that was recieved negatively so they stopped some local provincials have their news and stuff in the regional dialect or even languages
but due to movement of people standardized education and media it reinforces mandarin and there is a great social stigma about the migrant population and their accents
in terms of cultural heritage it is a catastrophe but the ccp just like the famines of the 1950s is only a catalyst
as regions become wealthy they get some revival and with the various forms of opera which are always popular there is some hope
>>
>>65737221
Toronto has tons of them at any given moment, and Markham is pretty much a Chinese majority

I don't know how hard it is to get in Canada because I was born here, and there's a lot of them relative to Canada's population but it's a small amount of Chinese people relative to China's population
>>
>>65737250
I keep imagining the difference between the various Chinese dialects as roughly equal to the difference between, say, New Orleans English and New York English. Culturally quite great, thus you have many terms for things New Yorkers might not recognize for foods, but otherwise easily mutually intelligible. In Chinese, are the differences between 'dialects' similar to the differences between Italian and French?
>>
>>65737292
But why isn't there a more serious effort from the CCP to preserve this cultural heritage? This other guy >>65737105, is trying to learn some of the dialects but are there books in Mandarin for all or even most of them? Even a sizable minority? Why aren't there projects to reduce the stigma of speaking the way your parents, their parents, and so on speak and spoke? Why do the Chinese people of 2066 have to pray that someone had the ability to make a play in some obscure dialect that exploded in popularity and caused a resurgence and thus they're able to learn what it sounded like and study it?
>>
>>65737352
>In Chinese, are the differences between 'dialects' similar to the differences between Italian and French?

It depends on the dialects you're comparing.

Guizhou dialect and Sichuan dialect are pretty much mutually intelligible, for example.

Meanwhile, Wenzhou dialect is known for being so different compared to other dialects, that I remember reading about a guy in a restaurant speaking Wenzhounese with his friends, and the waitress handed them English menus.
>>
>>65737421
They should go to a Chinese restaurant here then. The staff can probably speak Wenzhounese.
>>
>>65737388
>but are there books in Mandarin for all or even most of them?
Depends on the dialect. I only found like 1 or 2 books for the Zunyi dialect and they were like academic grammar studies.

Meanwhile, Uyghur, Cantonese, Shanghainese and Tibetan (well uyghur and Tibetan aren't dialects but still) have a lot more resources available.
>>
>>65737388
at the time they were afraid of regional power but now they don't really care, the provincial government has a lot of power but they don't see it as a cultural preservation, all they care about is economics and the movement of people, culture is an afterthought

i didn't mention but various dialects of mandarin have relatively low intelligibility with each other not to mention non-mandarin dialects which are derived from earlier versions of chinese before the southern migration and so forth so it is not comparable to say various forms of german

the stigma is kind of social cultural trait, a long time ago the elite mandarin accent was luoyang/henan, then when the mongols and manchu came it became beijing, hence all the er sounds in mandarin, for a long time suzhou was the elite wu dialect, then it became shanghainese after after the fall of qing

as migrants move up the economic chain they start to adopt the local dialect, in this way they can be seen as a productive member who assimilates, chinese are very regional as well
>>
>>65737569
Being real, it's little things like this that push me--slightly--away from capitalism. Once all those years of culture are casually destroyed from the minds of millions...they're gone. Forever. Period. Assuming anyone ever remembers they existed, were they to try 'recreating' it, it would just be a hollow shell of the real thing. Would people take more care of their history under a different system? I don't really know or really think so, but clearly Capitalism is destructive to this aspect of Humanity.
>>

I suppose it's important to remember that the legitimacy of the Party is based on their economic progress - measures like encouraging the use of Mandarin are all done in order to help the Chinese economy.
>>
>>65737678

you know it may seems that way but this is part of price you pay for being in this age, sure we can't all speak like the romans but at least be don't have to do declensions

when i was young i used to be so proud of the fact that i spoke 金山话 (you can look it up somewhere it sounds pretty bad to westerners), it seems ridiculous but it is a sub-relative of shanghai dialect and within it there is also songjiang etc, and within 金山话 there is minor differences in the noun 我 which was nu, as opposed to gnu in shanghainese or ahnu in another form of 金山话 and that if i went to live in shanghai i would be looked down as a rural hick and that morphological it was closer to zhejiang shaoxing hua

so its a lot of identities and skins you have to wear or shed, it's always like this but much more pointedly since everyone moves and everyone have to give up something

>Why does it move you away from capitalism?

Without a need for money pushing people towards the cities in order to avoid poor living conditions in the communities in which their cultures are strong, people would feel more in touch with their heritage and thus cherish it more. More, as >>65737569, said: the powers that be, the ones with the ability to do something about the rampant loss of dialects, are unwilling to dedicate any resources because they just want to keep pushing for more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more growth.

It's just sad and aggravating. Though I do know the communists really weren't any better..
