It is pretty arrogant of you to assume I don't understand sponsored content, given that I live in a country whose media has been commercialized since its inception (newspapers, airwaves, etc). I posted those figures because the one class of person the media tends not to lie to as much is the business class. They experience the failures of projected earnings first hand, and being the greasy unregulated bastards they are, pass along the costs to the rest of us.

The point being, there are many cases in which you can accuse the US media of being a puppet of the advertising industry (especially after the finacilization of the economy in the 80's) but this really isn't one of them. The financial press is among the most honest (in the short term, they don't do well at taking into account long term interests) in the country. If only because the effects of their reporting are felt more immediately by that class.

If we're gonna whip out our dicks on this issue without regard to any provable merit, than I would like to point out I've wasted my entire academic career dissecting the techniques used by the marketing industry to influence public thought.

The national cuisine is mostly garbage and made to be mass-produced. The regional cuisines, however, are delicious, unique, and artful.

Part of that probably has to do with the fact that the country is geographically large, young, and a melting pot. So you've got a lot of unique, delicious regional traditions, while the national, non-regional or trans-regional food is mass-produced and commercialized and basically just made to keep people from dying.

Like, it's like the fact that Vermont cheddar or New York cheddar are delicious, whereas "American Cheese" is processed crap and barely even cheese.
