I commute to NYC from New Jersey every day for work.

In the mornings, I'll just smile to the bus driver. But I see many passengers thanking the bus driver.

In the evenings, I will say good night. If it's really late (like midnight) or it's a difficult journey (like it's snowing really hard) I might say thank you.
