>the old warehouse however looks like...well, an old warehouse

Which is fair enough imo, considering that Amsterdam-Centre is like 80% old warehouses.. I don't like the 1001-night-tier sand temples they put up everywhere in the late 90s. Mosques before that often were existing buildings, like the old warehouse.. And currently they try to make them fit in with the area, by using similar bricks and colors.. But 10-20 years ago they alle looked like pic related..

Bonus points for use of pink and beige tints or emeraldish-green, and more than 1 minaret.
>pic related

I'm not even a Moroccan ;_;... I was just raised in the west of this country, which means I'm confronted with a relatively large amount of mosques. In my city alone there are 2, and a fresh one under construction that will also do service as a larger 'Islamic centre' where they'll do more than just worship (don't ask me what they do though, I don't involve myself with these people)...

I'm just interested in how they make them look in other European states, if they build them at all.

>>53422196
>What's the acreage with that?

Guessing it's what you see in the pic, but only the gravel.. I think the left-most garage is a neighbor's property, and the grass and shrubs on the right indicate another neighbor, I'm guessing.

It's not as bad looking IRL, but it is rather bland.. I think they built it mostly to not offend the local population (who would likely not have acceped a domed sand-temple), as well as to keep costs down. During construction it was pretty clear that it consists mostly of concrete slabs, though they've put some ornamental mozaik on the outside.

This is one of the largest (possibly the largest) Churches in my city.. Not quite a French Cathederal, but still.

Note that tower is actually lower than the rest of the Church, as it's never been finished completely and saw quite a few set-backs in its lifetime, among which the 'Beeldenstorm' in 1566 ('statue storm', in which protestants destroyed Catholic churches, icons and statues on a large scale), disrepair and a disaster involving a ship filled with gunpowder exploding (flattening half the city) in 1804, and later the Second World war... It's been restored after, and has services every sunday.

Mostly because Catholics already have (much) more fancy Churches than they can use though.. And Protestant churches tended not to be so fancy, unless they were reformed Catholic churches like: >>53422859

>Our societies are secular, we don't need that kind of buildings indicating religious dominance.

Unfortunately this is not true for all of Europe.. Britain for instance has a literal state-Church, and in the Netherlands all of our laws are prefixed by 'in name of the Monarch, by the grace of god...'

That said, I don't like ugly buildings that stick out either.

>>53423003

Pic is the lonely Dom tower in Utrecht.. Would have been a Cathederal, if it weren't for a tornado bringing down half the building in the 1600s.. As a result the tower has been seperated from the rest of the Chuch, and stood solitary ever since.

I don't know. The largest mosque in Norway is relatively far from Oslo, but it's placed by the high-way that goes from the airport to the city, which means any tourist driving from the airport to Oslo would most likely have that be the first religious building seen on his way.

There's a very similar one not even 2 miles down the road... Hard to imagine there was once a time in this country (not even all that long ago) when they'd actually need the capacity of 2 of those big churches (by far the largest buildings in area) on a small rural community of maybe 2000 people max..

Today they see large groups of people for weddings, funerals and perhaps Christmas.

The City of Zwolle also grew far far beyond it's original fortifications. The shape of the old centre remains though.

I like how in the old French towns the walls are often still upright.. In old Dutch cities they often tore down the walls to make space for more buildings and/or canals. Just the gates and the old bridges often remain.

Berwick upon Tweed is sort of fortified, though. England's most northern town, so practically Scottish I assume.

It's not a bad plan for a town.
Give it a certain amount of room within some walls that eveyrone has to work and live in. So you dont get low density suburbs or anything, as seen in the background of this image.

It is desu, like 50% of the house prices here are made up of the price of land.

Building your own house on a patch of land isn't really popular here, as it takes a lot of bureaucratic bullshit to get to the point you can start building. It's more popular to buy an old house/farm and renovate it.

I had the impression fake or purely ornamental brick facades were pretty common in Kentucky and New York State. (only 2 states I covered quite a bit of ground in)..

Most of your houses are wood, which makes sense because wood is an easy material and you have plenty of it... The pic I posted earlier (>>53428120) should give you an indication of how little forest we have left.
