/ref/ were some flaggots dedicated to collecting all flags on 4chan/int/ some 2 years ago, ref was hosted on a now defunct imageboard. Some of them bought a VPN with virtual locations, meaning that the server was actually in the UK but showed up as 'rare' locations. That's why none of those locations stayed around for long.
The same goes for Pitcairn, it's a virtual location, the server is in the US but shows up as Pitcairn.
Same goes for Svalbard, Norfolk, Cocos, Christmas island, they are always 100% proxy.
