Literally the easiest language in the world for English speakers. That's not a bad thing either
>>
>>53309317
I'd say it's probably Norwegian or something but that shit's useless

English native who speaks good Spanish and a little bit of German here. I think German is noticeably harder than Spanish, although the extra cognates do help.

German grammar is a little funky at times - word order usually doesn't matter much except when the verb has to be in specific positions. Cases aren't always intuitive, and you have 3 genders instead of 2. More words inflect by gender as well (IE: mine in Spanish = mi for both genders; mine in German = meine or mein, depending on gender), so you really need to know the genders more thoroughly in German.

Phonetically there's more sounds in German than in Spanish, so reading and speaking takes a little longer.

I found it harder to start speaking German than Spanish. The r sound is harder for me (still can't fucking say the word Straße to save my life), and I feel like I need to think more about German grammar than Spanish at this stage in my learning.

It is a very strange experience visiting the Netherlands if you're a native English speaker with an incredibly superficial understanding of German. Dutch sounds like a mix between the two languages so the ambiance in public spaces is somewhat unnerving. Alot of familiar phonemes floating around that seem comprehensible if you're not paying attention, though as soon as you do it sounds like whoever you're focused on is talking underwater.

A ton of fun on truffles.
