northwest can be VERY expensive , PA you can live in the big cities for cheaper than its worth and be relatively close to NYC and be able to travel there basically whenever you want

Pittsburgh is cheaper than Philadelphia but a ways from NYC, but I'm not sure if that really matters to you.
