Japanese is easy grammar wise and is not tonal, you basically have to watch whether you say each letter high or low, that's it.

Nips even simplified their writing to a degree. Yiu can get by with knowing only 3000 characters.

How they are used in Japanese makes learning how to read and write in Japanese much harder.

Many/most Chinese characters used in Japanese basically have two or three standard "readings" for every word they used (or if they stand for themselves) with possibly additional specialized readings for certain words. There are so many exceptions that you basically have learn how to identify the correct reading of every word by context and experience.
